Is anyone working on one of these? I know there have been rumblings in the past but I haven't heard anything in a long time. This has been my diversion when I can't look at the P-3 any longer. If someone else is futher along and/or has a better model please let me know. I can have other diversions

Hey Jake,
I know that someone started in on a -52 a while back, like way back when the site first opened up. Whoever it was, I can't seem to recall, but he never got very far with it as I remember. But nothing since then. So I'd say go for it. I don't think you'll be stepping on anyone's toes, and we could really use an AI B-52.

Thanks for that vote of confidence, but I haven't been able to achieve that negative AOA for AI helicopters taking off so I really doubt whether I could do it for an AI big ugly f.....ellow.

Thanks guys. I know that flexing wings are possible and I don't think it would be worth it if we couldn't include that
. As for the negative angle of attack, even if its not possible, an AI '52 would be a good thing in my opinion.
I'll nix the ailerons but those big boards and flaps will be necessary I think.
Please remember that this is just a diversion until the P-3 is at least in beta so don't expect a Nick Black speed run to completion

BTW, I understand the bit about the landing gear. I have been thinking about the mechanics of this for some time now, and it is complex enough that the visual detail must be kept down in order to allow realistic movement for the mains without adding way to many polys. However, I think it could be done with 9 simple tubes for each main, which would include main shaft with hydro compression and two outboard shafts the same except smaller. The main shaft assembly would raise and lower and compress, next a large cross member which would contact at its center point to the main shaft, rotating from parallel with the center line of the main fuselage to perpendicular. Attached to each end of the large cross member would be a smaller shaft which would compress and rotate either forward or aft between fully extended to stowed, all in coordination with and simutainiously with the raising and lowereing of the main shaft. Attached to these smaller shafts would be the axel and wheels, with the wheels rotating. Wow! I don't have any experience to base this on, but I must say, that seems like quite an accomplishment. Is that how you are seeing it as well?

Ron, I have the gear rising and rotating pretty well, but right now it dosen't fit in the wheelwells as it goes up. As for the mechanics of making it work, I just simulated it as I assigned keyframes and it looks pretty good. I will have todigest your suggestion some more
; maybe draw out a diagram. Thanks for the idea, though. It may be the final answer.

You need a heirichacal poly.
Connect the fuselage to it.
Connect the wings to the fuselage
etc etc
All parts must be connected.
Code the negative angle using XML referencing the heirachical poly.
