Taxisigns not showing up

Post by phantomfreak »

I'm working on an airport in ADE9 creating some taxiway signs and when I save and compile when I review it as a bgl file the taxiway signs are not there. They are there on my backup file. Any ideas?

Do your settings say to "separate airport and object bgl files" when compiling? If so, your taxiway signs will probably be in the "_OBJ.bgl" file, which you'll need to import into ADE9 after you load the main airport bgl.

I have it compile into one file, and yes I have the view taxi signs checked. What's weird is that some of the taxi signs are there and some are not.

You haven't got an exclude or an exclude area causing the issue do you?

Are you sure to have seved (compiled) the modification in the same directory?

Yes I have saved it to the same directory and I overwrite the previous one. Would overwriting/replacing the previous one have anything to do with it?

Can I understand what you are doing? I think I am reading that you are creating something, compiling it and then opening the Bgl file in ADE? Or are the signs missing in FS?

They are missing in ADE.

I have an airport that I have been working on in ADE, when I go to compile it to where I have it saved in the addon scenery folder, some of the taxi signs are not in showing up ADE.

I'm wondering if I should compile the one that is saved as a backup as a .bgl and delete the one that is in my addon scenery folder.

Hi

Do you have two separate .bgl files? One for the airport and one for the taxi way signs.

Are the taxiway signs in the .XML file? Open it with notepad.

A possible solution is to compile a separate .bgl file with only the exclusion rectangles.

First open the original ADE .XML file with notepad. Save it as airport exclude. Open the new notepad file with notepad. Delete the airport information. Save the file.

Compile the notepad file with only excludes with bgl comp.

Remove the exclusions from your ADE.XML. Save it.

Import the xml back into ADE with open .xml option.

Alternatively remove the exclusion files from your ADE project after saving another file with the exclusions.

Hope this gives some hope.

Hi again

Just a thought.

If you are opening your new bgl with ADE then you will not see signs inside the small exclude zones.

In view options turn view exclusions off in order to see the taxi signs.

On a side note, it is beyond me why you'd want to load the compiled bgl file again. You should never have to do that. Always work from the ADE9 project file (.ad2) instead.

And now I think of it... I'm pretty sure ADE9 doesn't automatically load stock data when an airport is opened from a bgl file. You will only get these if you go to "Tools -> Load Stock Data".

I have the exclusions turned off, none of the stock data is loaded. I haven't got that advanced enough to use the xml code. If I look at the ad3 file everything that I have added is there. But after I compile it and check the airport some but not all of the signs are there. I'm using the crosswind runway technique, could that be a possibility? It's just that somewhere in the compile I'm losing some data.

But the signs show up correctly in FS9, right? I don't think you answered that question clearly. :smt001

Because if they do, then the problem is you're trying to load the airport again from the bgl file. This is how AFCAD and AFX worked, but not ADE9. The latter saves everything in the ad3 project file and you should always open that file to make changes and then compile again to a bgl, overwriting the old bgl.

Jason

I do not know how long you have been using ADE so this might, or might not, be appropriate.

I used Afcad for a long time before using ADE.

I took me a day or two to discover that ADE requires you to compile the bgl file using the compile command.

All the save command does is save your changes to the ad3 file.

If you have done this and do not see the signs in the sim then some thing else is causing it. Perhaps exclusions.

Greg,

They do show up in FS9. Your last post helped me. I was and am still used to the older versions of ADE where it would show everything. Thanks guys for the help.

Well yes and no...

As far as FS9 goes, everything is showing up fine. But when Jason opens an airport from a bgl after he compiled it with ADE9, some of the taxiway signs aren't loaded.

Personally, I never open bgl's with ADE9 if I have the project file, as you told us countless times, Jon. So whether this is normal behavior caused by the decompilation process or not will be up to you to determine.

If the signs show in the project file and the signs show in FS then I wooud say things are OK. It may be that some signs are being delivered from the stock airport and others by the revised Bgl file. Generally opening the Bgl file is not a good idea since it may not contain what you expect for all sorts of reasons. The only valid test is if thing show in sim as expected.
