Post by Dinga69 »

Just uploading to Avsim now, will post link when accepted. This is a right mixture of paint schemes from blank aircraft to missing insignia and various states of repair on the fins! Enjoy!!

Very nice thank you. I think the NBAI Hawk is one of the most photogenic models around.

I Couldn't agree more, its a joy to paint, although ive not had a go at the 100/T2 as yet, there are plenty of schemes to do on that!!

Do you have any plans to do a retro schemes? I was thinking particularly of 74(R).

I agree, I think the NBAI Hawk is one of Nick's greatest achievements. It's a sweet model with all the right curves!
Very nice repaints also, thank you for sharing them.

You're welcome Mark!!
Firebird - do you mean me or Tranquil? I'd certainly consider it if there's enough reference material, but it'll probably way down the line - Once 208 are done, I may have a little break from the Hawks, as I have another project to look at. Might have to cheat a bit with that big hand painted Tigger's Head on the Anni jet(s)!!

@Dinga
I speaking to your good self. Not a problem on time scale. I just thought it would be nice to have the full set of shadow squadrons for Valley. If you are able to find the info and you have the time and inclination it would be a nice thing to have.

Wasn't going to go retro, as I've replaced 19 Sqn with Daryl's T2's, but can give 19 a spruce up in time too if you like(Using the MAIW serials??)! There was also 92 Sqn - but not sure if they disbanded before the black schemes were applied - the retro boys have more knowledge of this than me!! One thing I'm not painting in these releases are the aircraft stored at Shawbury. And to reiterate Mark's post about the model, it really does lend itself for some lovely screenshots - Thanks Nick Black!!!

Damn, forgot about 92(R). I thought that there was another one but wasn't sure.
Guess I want them as well then *sigh*.

I never understood why they persisted with 208(R) when the RAF policy is to reduce the sqn numbers down to the lowest numbers. It would have made more sense to renumber 208 to 4 and keep 19.

I had considered doing 19 & 92 but as dinga points out, and is the biggest bar on retro paints, is the lack of readily available references for real numbers. For something like the Hawks, it's probably not too much of a problem, especially if a copy of Military Aircraft Markings (or that other one that I can't remember at the moment) is available, as most special schemes are usually well-recorded on t'web. For example, I have a full history of every Phantom in RAF/RN service right up until 1986 - after that, nada. It's just a question of digging - deeply :lol:

These books are great https://www.air-britain.co.uk/actbooks/ ... eries.html I have some and use them when ever I make repaint packs like my bucc's and Vulcans, it gives serials and which squadron they were operated by :D

I can appreciate all the problems that painters have. If somebody finds the enthusiasm/time/energy to do these it would be nice but I am not going to demand it.
