England, 1989, Late Spring......

Brian Clarke has astounded once again - this time with a little help from aljude (thanks for that Tony - would have looked empty without them). Brian has gone all out this time, doing all scenery, backgrounds, excludes - the whole kit and caboodle. BUT. Do you know where it is? Anyone who says England does not get a biscuit

Couple of clues - major base in the 50's and 60s', finished as a permanent base in 1970 but used extensively for forward operating exercises until 1993. Even now, all runways and the majority of buildings, are in a good state of repair and COULD be called back into use.

It took some time to find, but it is RAF Wethersfield.

Looking forward to it, will be nice for some retro flying.

Fantastic and many thanks. I have lived within 30 minutes drive of the base ever since the 1970s and remember it well when it was operational. In those days, the resident F-100s really knew how to beat up an airfield at a public open day.

How are we with 20th TFW F-100s? They sported beautifully polished natural metal skins with lightning tail flashes initially and then the standard USAFE camo, but no tail code. I thought Mike P had done the model but I couldn't see it in his section.

That particular aircraft was indeed present in the UK, at the time suggested in the title of the thread. It was on static display at the Mildenhall Air Fete and I fell in love with it (sad, I know). But I just thought that "Scrappy" was such a cool name for the A-7.....

Hi all.

Hope you will enjoy RAF Wethersfield.

I was hoping that Mike Pearson may have released his F100's that he is working on. Knowing Mike and what he achieves there will be a base for the 20th TFW to fly from when they eventually land.

My thanks must go to Daryl Payne for his constant help and guidance, especially putting the package together and uploading it.

Stewart Pearson for his lighting effects which helps to bring the airbase to life at night.

A special thanks to Tony Dalton for allowing me to use his radio mast in the scenery. RAF Wethersfield has two very tall masts situated on the south western side of the airbase and I could find nothing in the scenery libraries that came close.
Tony produced the mast I needed for the Mildenhall V2. A quick contact and he sent me what I needed by return e-mail.

Thanks guys it is just unbelievable the help you get within the community. Great bunch.

Now it onto the next project.
