How are you following the aircraft?

I see in your flightplan that they don't always make a TNG at a waypoint, is that correct ?
and AC#15 day order is not is sequence, i am not sure if that affects things

I missed the one flight being out of sequence. I corrected it on my set up, but it didn't make any difference. I'm not sure whether TNG is required or not. I tried various permutations using and not using both TNG and @. Nothing seemed to work.
I have been trying to follow the AI aircraft using traffic toolbox explorer. I have also tried sitting near to the way point, but nothing appears. The AI aircraft show on traffic toolbox explorer when they are parked at KLAS, and take off,but disappear before they reach the RF waypoints.
I'm certain that the problem is with either the waypoints of the flight plans, but can't work out which. I appreciate your help.

A couple of things. the TNG and the @ are completely different. The @ symbol is a legacy means of ensuring that a plane lands at a specific time. Generally speaking the use of ampersand has been deprecated. You generally see it used for civvie plans to use actual planned arrival times, rather than using the cruise speed as a means of deciding the arrival time.

The TNG must always be used at a waypoint. Unless for a specific purpose waypoints do not have runways included of sufficient dimensions to allow an aircraft to land. TNG means that it will overshoot, if it is an IFR plan, or roller if a VFR plan. If TNG is not specified at a waypoint then it will attempt to land realise it can't and then the behaviour becomes uncertain but I have seen it disappear.

The last factor is that using the traffic explorer is only useful within a certain range of your airfield. Max range is around 100nm but I have seen it shorter. It depends where you airfield resides in the local AI traffic zone. Once you reach the edge of the zone your traffic will disappear. To view an entire journey, such as a cross country you really need to use something like TVB. That does not have the limitation, as it is an invisible plane that flies in close formation with the chosen AI.

For your situation, I would ensure that all waypoints are TNGs and if you still have the trouble then install and use TVB to see if that solves your particular issue.

Thanks for your reply Steve. I was using the "@" to ensure the traffic arrived at a set time, but it didn't work in this case. I also made sure all the flight plans had TNG, but again no help.

I have installed TVB and tried following one of the aircraft a few times, but each time the flight sim crashes after about 15 mins. I'm wondering if I have something else causing the problem, scenery issue maybe.

I think that I have spent long enough trying to make this work, it's time to move onto something else. Thanks again for all your help.

Derek,

The "@" is a TTools remnant used for past versions of FS and does not work in FS9.

What exactly are your waypoints? Are they small, invisible surface airports with one invisible runway made with AFCAD2 or are they virtual waypoints with no AFCAD2 file associated with them and only a location entry in the TTools airports text file and compiled into your TTools traffic file?

The former actual AFCAD2 invisible airport waypoints should work for IFR TNG missed approaches, but with the latter virtual waypoints the AI will disappear before they arrive there.

Hi Mike, the waypoint are short runways created with AFCAD, with a surface and a runway link. I created 8 waypoints very close to each other. All at 45 degrees to each other and each runway closed in one direction. The idea was to have 8 different aircraft approach the waypoints at 30 second intervals to reproduce the way Buccaneers operated back when. Unfortunately the aircraft never showed up there, at least not on my set up.

Dave, the Vulcans always show up for me. At least they show up at KLSV if not at my waypoints. Do you have parking spaces with the right parking radius at KLSV. I found that even with parking spaces with the correct parking code and radius, the Vulcans kept parking on the opposite side of the airfield to their designated spots.

For me the Vulcans appear in the 44m slots, but appear they do. If you have other large traffic there that has taken up the slots then the traffic will not appear. That could be your problem.

That definitely sounds like a scenery issue. I thought that the aircraft just disappeared after 15 mins, but if the game crashes then it is a texture issue somewhere in the area of the crash.

Before I installed TVB the AI just disappeared. Once I installed TVB the game crash on me completely a couple of times.

Anyway, despite saying I was going to give up, I fiddled with the flight plans again yesterday. When I followed one of the aircraft with TVB I managed to follow it all the way to the waypoint and it overflew the waypoint exactly as it should. Lowering the flaps and gear kind of ruined the effect of a bombing run, but at least it arrived where it was supposed to. I think that 2 other aircraft out the 10 that should have been there were also around the waypoint. The ones that showed up were the first 3 in the traffic file, so maybe there is a problem with one of the plans further down the file.

I'm relieved that at least one of the aircraft has finally shown up at my waypoint. I might persevere now and see if I can make the rest appear.

Thanks for all your help. I'll stick to simple flight plans in future,

    Cheers

See if you can narrow down the area that you get the crash. My guess is that either somebody else will get it, or has got it, or will now the cause.
