These models are so good, and there are many, many locations that they would enhance. I've been using Heli traffic, but it really doesn't do them justice...Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

AFCADs for helicopters
Has anyone mastered the art of creating Afcads for helicopters, specifically the excellent models recently emerging from SBAI and UTT? I tried to follow the instructions that came with the Mi-8, but my Russian wasn't up to it, even with the help of Google translate.. These models are so good, and there are many, many locations that they would enhance. I've been using Heli traffic, but it really doesn't do them justice...
Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

You don't specify whether you are using Mi-8 with FS9 oder FSX.

FS9. I never quite made the transition to FSX; I had too much baggage..

An Afcad for helicopter traffic isnt' different, as for normal traffic. I do following steps:
- create new airport with a new ID (I replace the first letter by the number 5 - e.g. 5JFK instead of KJFK, it's easier to assign the heliport)
- create a runway with a length of 500 ft (not shorter) and add runway link, taxiway (unkown surface) parking and hold short node
- to avoid that all these are shown I reduce runway link and taxiway to zero feet
- runway width is to be reduced to 0.4 ft - however you should use AFCAD tool, as other tools don't allow such a small width
- the altitude shouldn't be higher or even a little bit lower than the normal Afcad
Best tool to create such additional heliports, and everthing else in Afcad, is by far AFX of Flight1. Even if it's payware, it has a interface which allows to see what will be where.

I know this is an old thread, but I'd like to give it another go..
Bernard's suggestion may work for other helicopters, but in my experience not for the SBAI/UTT ones. I've tried without success to follow the Russian instructions for creating Afcads; has anyone else had better luck?
The models are very good; it would be great to be able to use them properly..
