Installing MAIW sceneries

Post by Jive1 »

Hey!
Is there a better way on how to install MAIW sceneries?
What I want to know is, wether all MAIW sceneries should better be installed in one and the only folder under Addon scenerie folder, or is it better to install each separate MAIW scenery in it's own separate folder inder Addon Scenery. The problem could then be that the Addon Scenery folder becomes to big, and FS9 refuses to accept all the folders. On the other hand, it might be confusing to have so many MAIW sceneries in one single MAIW folder.
My question in fact is: is there a good reason why I better choose one or the other way of installing?

Hi

I have all my MAIW sceneries installed in the main scenery folder.
I run the installer to install the files into a folder I call unzipped.

I then move the folders to the scenery folder and activate them using the library manager.
I thus know what has been put where, when conflicts occur or a scenery does not work.

I have 768 sceneries installed and 576 active.

Only problem could be the available ram memory in your system.

Make unused sceneries inactive.

Hey!
That's almost like I used to have my sceneries.
But, on a certain moment, I think I had somewhat over 2000 scenerie folders in the Addon Scenery folder and then came a message that my system could not have more scenery folders. And indeed when I eliminated the last installed scenery, there was no problem anymore, but trying another time to install one more scenery, I had the same message. So I had to reduce my number of separate scenery folders. That is why I now try to put more sceneries in less folders, as to not have that message anymore. So I have already part of my MAIW sceneries together in a few common folders, but I wanted to know if I continue to put all my MAIW sceneries in one single common scenery folder , wether that has any desadvantage or not.

I can see no reason for it not to work, having most of the MAIW files in one folder.

Only the landclass files would have to be in a separate folder. Activated lower in the scenery list.

Modified afcads would have to go in a higher folder to avoid conflict with the original if it is still installed. The delete airport section needs this to work, as it deletes airports with the same name in lower folders.

I haven't tested it but like John I can't see why it wouldn't work. Some package managers combine several sceneries for the same country together already if they come in the same package. It will make uninstalling specific sceneries very hard though, for expample when we release an update to an old package with a new improved scenery (and the old one needs to be removed).

Hey!
I thank you for tghe information. I can at least try and do so, because I myself was thinking more or less in the same way. Why would'nt it work! The only problem indeed is when one has to replace an older scenery by a new versio;N But I think that this does not happen very often, I hope!
So thank you, I will do so an when I encouter with specific problems in this respect, I will inform.
