MAIW, FSX and Windows 8

Post by Grape »

OK guys, I need some help. Got a new machine with Windows 8. Ya, I know, PUKE!
Having installed MAIW packages into FSX in Windows Vista quite successfully in the past I think I know what I am doing. At least I did.
Installed a couple packages into FSX on my new machine. Scenery shows up but no AI aircraft. I followed the same procedure I used with Vista. Is there some sort of problem with Windows 8?

I had this very same problem with most of my AI not just MAIW aircraft on Windows 8 until last night when I turned off all shadows for aircraft exterior settings within the Options menu tab in FSX. I hope that does the trick for you.

Thanks Keith for your reply. Finally had time to try out your suggestion. I could not find an "Options Menu Tab" in FSX. I did go into the Settings, Customize, Aircraft Exterior Settings and unchecked "Aircraft casts shadows on the ground" and "Aircraft casts shadows on itself". Not sure these settings apply to AI aircraft though. Still no luck. I did see 4 B-52's at Barksdale one time but nothing since and that was before I tried your suggestion.

Fortunately I don't either Windows 8 or FSX, but maybe you could narrow the problem down by installing FS9 and installing a problem package. Do the aircraft show up then? Do you have FS9?

If they show up then at least you know the problem is FSX related.

No, I do not have FS9. I'm thinking it's a problem with Windows 8 as I used to run FSX in Windows Vista with MAIW packages without any problems. Thanks for your help though.
