AI BlackHawk
Re: AI BlackHawk
John, check the stabolator on the fs9 Blackhawk. The UH-60A appears to have a square surface when should be the five pointed surface.

Re: AI BlackHawk
That will be one for the repainters, the USN doesn't seem to have a standard on the station SAR MH-60S. China Lake, Whidbey Island, Key West, and Pax River seem to have the white/orange. Fallon and the above Lemoore went with a different scheme.

Re: AI BlackHawk
The Firehawk is all done for FS9 and FSX:

I believe 3 of them are in use by the LA Fire Department, operating from Whiteman Airport (KWHP) California. I thought I might as well paint up all 3 and I might also make a simple KWHP overlay AFCAD too:

Because of the increased static pitch caused by the extended gear Oleos to accommodate the tank, I've had to use a separate Aircraft folder for the Firehawk with it's own aircraft.cfg file and a unique set of contact points.
It might be an idea to continue to split the files by Black Hawk family type in some way in order to create a better structure for future repainted textures.
With the modelling all done now, the next job is to work through the suggested changes posted so far. Thank you all for those - they shouldn't present any problems.

Re: AI BlackHawk
I've split the Jayhawks out to their own folder, John. (Look for a PM later in the day.)
Here's three 6003, 6008, and 6022 at CGAS Astoria. A few more paints to go, then on to the rest of the flight plans and AFCADS.

I agree. I had already done with your beta package, far easier to keep track of things.John Young wrote:It might be an idea to continue to split the files by Black Hawk family type in some way in order to create a better structure for future repainted textures.

Re: AI BlackHawk
I'll probably split the aircraft up into 7 folders like this then:
USAF Paves (armed, unarmed, skis)
US Army (A, L, M)
US Navy ( R, S)
US Coastguard (J, T)
Presidential
USC&BP
Firehawk

I guess we can expect future Sikorsky programs to be overpriced and under performing.

Sounds like the American aircraft companies are working towards a BAe situation where there is only one.

Re: AI BlackHawk
Thanks Joe and to everyone else for your feedback.
I’ve updated all the models in the family with the suggestions made so far. They are now split into 7 separate aircraft folders, the “A” and the “L” stabilators now have the correct shape, the APU exhausts on the RH side of some aircraft have been removed and the “J” Jayhawk has been dispensed with in favour of two T” models, one with the cabin crewman. I’ve corrected the Sea Hawk insignia mapping error, USA flags now point the right way and a few other small changes have been made. The manual has also been updated and paint kits included.
In splitting the aircraft into 7 folders, each with their own aircraft.cfg and .air file, I’ve kept the aircraft names the same so flight plans that testers may have produced will still function.
The helicopters are still a tad fast in the cruise, but I’m reluctant to disturb a finely balanced FDE. If I increase the weight or lower the power, or increase the drag to slow them down, that will almost certainly cause them to approach lower and that’s something we need to avoid. I’ll try a few more tests though this weekend. I’ll also have a go at the AFCADs and flight plans for the 3 Firehawks at Whiteman airport California (KWHP).
I’ve sent the links to new Beta 2 zips (FS9 and FSX) to ClickClick. He’s kindly going to try the basis of some more complex paint schemes to check the mapping for me. I’ll make any required changes this coming week hopefully, and if all goes well, that should enable a public release next weekend – Avsim being back on line of course.
If any MAIW staff and contributors would like the new Beta 2 files they are available in my personal folder on the ftp. If previous testers would like the new files ahead of the public release, just drop me a PM and I’ll send the links.
Just remember to change out the Crail test scenery and traffic file from Beta 1- the parking and flight plans have been increased from 15 to 17 aircraft with the addition of the USC&BP and Firehawk models.

Re: AI BlackHawk
Noticed on the following the right side fuel dump pipe is missing:
USN models R/S
Pavehawks
USCG Jayhawk.
Also the HF antenna is another antenna I didn't see on the models. I would not change anything and these small additions do not take away from the model.

Re: AI BlackHawk
It's a good observation Chris, but I made a decision not to include those two parts some weeks back. I had a polygon budget in mind and I wanted to stick to it. The vent pipe is too small to really notice, but would require 40 polygons. The long horizontal HF antenna is more complex and needs 102. I could have included them, but really only at the expense of something else. It's AI I'm afraid and even though my models are pretty detailed in LOD1, I don't want to stray too far and risk a performance penalty. The vertical HF antennas are on the less complex "A" model by the pilot's doors, but alas, they are too expensive on models like the Paves, Sea and Jayhawks.

Working on basic flight plans so they all show at their respective CGAS.

Re: AI BlackHawk
I feel that this is going to be another landmark release. It will fill the gap where I have so many non-AI based helicopters. I am looking forward to these Hawks!

Finally had a chance to look at the models, are the lights still in progress as I didn't notice any [light] configs in the aircraft.cfg
definitely looking forward to seeing these in game
