How does FS know which, GA or Airline?

How does FS know which, GA or Airline?

Post by col1948 »

I did a Google search but couldn't find an answer, I wonder if anyone knows on here.

My question is 'How does FS know if an aircraft is a GA or a Commercial?' I have seen small-ish jets labelled as GA so it isn't just prop aircraft, so when you select the sliders how does FS know which is which?

Hi Col 1948,
I am not quite sure what you are asking. In flightplans there will be a section with either R or F. If it is R which would normally be a GA aircraft then the registration in the CFG will be used and if F the airline callsign will be used from the CFG. Of course some GA aircraft have callsigns instead of reg used so the flightplan would use F instead of R. An example would be Gama Aviation biz jets that use the callsign GAMA.
If you are talking about the 2 tick boxes with the 0 t0 100% slider in the traffic settings they are for the default AI traffic files that come with the sim which you should rename, move or delete (your choice) from the scenery/world/scenery folder although you may want to keep the GA one until you add more realistic GA traffic.

I understand about the sliders and what tey do plus the R and F in flight plans but what I mean is just for example if I set the Airline slider to zero all I get would be GA, so why doesn't FS load the commercial as a GA?
Ther must be somethying else, may be in the cfg or is it hte radius of the aircraft, so how does FS know if its a GA or not?

I'll refrase it a little.
If I set the Airline Slider to zero, how does FS know not to load any of the airliners but only load the GA aircraft?
So what tells FS that an Airbus or a Boeing isn't a GA?

it is "atc_airline=" if it is empty, it is GA

Yes that did the trick.

What I was doing was a little experiment, I made an Aircraft folder in FS renaming the working folder so it wasn't read.
I put a few aircraft in the new Aircraft folder, left the "Airline=" empty as mentioned above.
Made a couple of test flight plans in TTools.
Put the slider for Airline to zero and sure enough the aircraft were there when I opened Traffic Tools.

So then to the experiment.
I opened the GA traffic generator program to see if it would generate some flight plans for the test aircraft, but all it generated was a few flights for Traffic View Board and no extra ones for the test aircraft.

I wanted to see if I could generate flight plans for some military aircraft to fill the skies a little, I was being lazy instead of searching for plans online and compiling them I thought this might work, but it was just an experiment so no harm done.
everything back as it was again till next time.
