Possible to slow down take-off speed?

Possible to slow down take-off speed?

Post by Manschy »

Hi all,

just to ask, is it possible to slow down the AI aircraft take-off speed a little? Just installed the C-17 Globemaster at Brize Norton and watched them taking off, but they seem to be faster than a Tornado-Jet 8) .
Is it an aircraft.cfg parametre or is it included inside the mdl? Thank's in advance.
Regards, Manfred.

Perhaps not in CFG nor MDL, but in the FDE .AIR file

Like most things it is a combination of factors. Generally speaking the main factors on take off are thrust and weight.
Now even people who have never messed around with AI fdes will guess that simply altering one or the other will have knock on effects somewhere else in flight.

Are you saying that the C-17s get off the ground at a slower speed than the Tornados or just quicker, or are you saying that their take-off speed is greater?

Thanks guys for answer. It is the PAI C-17 and watching them take-off, it looks like watching a jet starting (much too fast, to my opinion...). Who ever watched a real C-17 take-off remembers her majestic and really slow moving (yap, for sure because of the heavy weight...)
So I will playing around with some aircraft parametres, using the thrust and weight factors seems very reasonable to me. I had to remember that. Thank you.

OK if it is the take off run that seems too quick then I would suggest nudging down the thrust a little.
The reason is simply that although you may not solve your problem completely you will probably improve it w/o having to amend anything else.
What I mean is that if you increase the weight you may find that you start to stall on approach, you will see the aircraft nodding all the time, this is due to the wing area not being enough to carry the weight at that speed.

You probably now get the picture on how difficult it is to balance an fde. What I would suggest is that you reduce the thrust minimally and not only watch the take off but also the climb, the cruise speed and the approach for problems.

It can often take a lot of testing to get a reasonable balance for an fde.
