USCG San Diego help
USCG San Diego help
I have Latin VFR's scenery for San Diego, and it has the Coast Guard station in the scenery. I want to get the USCG Jayhawks to land and take off from the Coast Guard station instead of going to the main runway at San Diego. I am rather a novice at AFCAD stuff, so how would I make that happen?
Re: USCG San Diego help
OK A simple overview of what to do.
Does the afcad supplied cover activity at the CG station?
If not then you need to create one with a icao designation not already used and then then amend your flightplans to use that instead of the main San Diego afcad.
If so then copy the main afcad to a new not already used icao designation. Remove all of the non-required bit from the copy and add a runway where you want the helos to take off and then plumb the parking and taxiways into that new runway.
Then remove all the CGAS part parking and taxiways from the main afcad.
Finally amend your flightplans to use the new afcad.
That is the simple overview, obviously it will take some work to achieve what you want. If it was freeware scenery you might have found somebody to do the work for you but as its payware you are likely to be unlucky there.

I checked the AFCAD and there is nothing for the Coast Guard station. Since I never made a AFCAD from scratch before, what do I do about the runway? The USCG station does not have a runway, just the spot where they taxi to and take off (it's a square on the ground with the letter "R" in the middle) How big do I make the runway? And what about ILS and all that other stuff?
Re: USCG San Diego help
I would suggest that you take a look at some of our other helo afcads, such as E1OV at Valley. I believe that the starting point is a runway 500x1 feet with the surface the same type as the ground.
You want no markings, no aids and no lights.

Re: USCG San Diego help
Joseph, I too, have Latin VFR SanDiego. I have a partially finished (CGSD afcad) I made during the time I was painting up the Jayhawks so they would fit my scenery installations. When I made the flight plans for them I used KSAN as not every one has LVFRSD. I will dig it out and polish it off and upload it here..

Ok thanks! Which version do you use FSX or FS9? I have the FS9 version. I will still try and do the AFCAD tomorrow just incase you use the FSX version of the LatinVFR scenery.Joecoastie wrote:Joseph, I too, have Latin VFR SanDiego. Re: USCG San Diego help
I use FSX. However it should work in FS9. The only thing I have yet to take care of is removing the two MH-65 Dolphins from the scenery. There aren't any 65's based at San Diego. They are based further north - Los Angeles and have moved to Point Mugu.
Here's the FSX afcad and my traffic file for the three -60's at San Diego. Hope they help you . . . . . or anyone else.

Re: USCG San Diego help
Thank you very much. I will test out your AFCAD Sunday night. Would it be better to put the new AFCAD in the San Diego scenery folder? Or in the FS9 Addon Scenery/scenery folder?
Also what are you using for MH-65's? Is there a AI MH-65 I didn't know about?

Re: USCG San Diego help
Realistically it wouldn't matter as long as it is in a path in the scenery.cfg, however you may forget that it's there so best to keep them separate, for uninstall purposes.

Re: USCG San Diego help
The two MH-65's are 'statics', part of the Latin VFR scenery..
There is an AI 65. I believe it was found here, on MAIW about two or three years ago.
I have been S L O W l Y making afcads and flight plans for the 65's. Nothing really finished good enough to upload.

Re: USCG San Diego help
I just tried your new AFCAD, but when I went to CGSD I was put in the middle of no where in western Africa (in the airport list it did say San Diego, CA). Then I went to KSAN and looked for the helicopters, but didn't see any.
And yes your right those MH-65's are statics. I forgot they were there.
Edit: I opened up your new AFCAD and when to KSAN in the sim and slewed over to the CGS, then I locked ADE to my sim and that shows that I am in the right spot. So I am not sure what is wrong. Also in the airport list when I choose CGSD the is no spots to choose from

Re: USCG San Diego help
I fixed it, I added a start spot to your AFCAD and the AI now shows up. Everything seems to be working now.

Re: USCG San Diego help
Ah yes, the old missing start spot trick ! I better open up ADEX and add one to mine.
Sorry about that, When I was working on/looking at CGAS San Diego I always went to KSAN and slewed over the highway to check the afcad.
Never did try to start from CGSD.
I sent a message to LatinVFR asking about deleting the -65's and explaining why. I did find their texture files, but have not found the .bgl they're in.

Re: USCG San Diego help
If you find out how to delete those static helos please post here.
Also for FS9 users. If you are going to use the new and you have bleed through problems open AFCAD change the CGSD airport elevation to 4.700. When I first put in the new AFCAD I had some textures bleeding through. But I changed the elevation to 4.700 (same elevation as KSAN) and it fixed the bleed through.

Re: USCG San Diego help
The -65's are part of "SANcoastguardstationFS2004.bgl" , so if I've grabbed the modelling concept correctly only LATINVFR would be able to de-compile, delete them, then recompile.Joecoastie wrote:Ah yes, the old missing start spot trick ! I better open up ADEX and add one to mine.

Re: USCG San Diego help
One way of removing the static helos, would be to replace their texture files with a solid black 64x64 .bmp with a black alpha channel. That way they'll at least be invisible, unless there's some special glass built into the model.

Re: USCG San Diego help
Unfortunately that trick doesn't work in FSX. You get a black aircraft or if you use a white alpha you get a very shiney one..RKE wrote:One way of removing the static helos, would be to replace their texture files with a solid black 64x64 .bmp with a black alpha channel.
