Plan-G Question

Post by col1948 »

I haven't used it in a while, I normally use FS Nav but I just gave it a go and only part of the map shows and on the other half is plastered this message.

I just found this:

Same thing here, had to switch to OSM instead... shame really, MapQuest looked really nice.

SeanG, how do you use OSM with Flightsim, I mean do you link to it somehow?

"Open Street Maps" is one of the map providers which Plan-G can use. Go to the options menu and select Open Street Maps instead of MapQuest.

Click on the "File" tab, then "Options" which is near the bottom, just above "Exit".
Then in the "Map Provider" section, select either "OpenStreeMap" or "OpenCycleMap". I prefer the Cycle map as it has more topographical information.

Hi Sean, you are a genius, cheers mate. For some reason when I was messing with it earlier i deleted the data base, I had to rebuild it again.

@Sean, I use Plan-G with my ai, it works fine but at the bottom menu bar there is the Lon, Lat, Alt, Hdg and G/speed, they all register except the G/speed, do you use it for ai and if so do you know if there is a way to show the G/speed, no big deal if not just wondering?

Hmmm, can't say I've paid that much attention to it... I'll have a peek tonight and see what it's doing on mine.
Are you using FS9 or FSX?

It would appear that the "info bar" at the bottom is about your aircraft, but the Lat/Lon indicated is of the cursor position. Which is odd.... If you hover the mouse over your aircraft you will see that the alt and heading match.

Unless, that is, you have some other way of following AI aircraft?

Hi Sean, Thanks, yes I think I need to read the instructions a bit more, I'm sure there is more to this program that I'm missing.
Going back a while I wanted a moving map like but better than the one if you press the flight sim map, I bought a moving map program, it worked OK but was missing lots of detail.
I forgot I still had FS Nav from years ago which I use today, but then I found Plan-G and thought it was fantastic for the level of detail plus it moved with the aircraft just like the ones the passengers see on the monitor of some civil aircraft.
Now I have all this am I being selfish wanting it to do more lol?

Haha... That's called "expectation creep" :)
I really like Plan-G, especially for planning flights for my SimPit, I can produce "believable" low level training routes then fly them in the sim... :)

I've lost my flight plan on Plan-G. I click the button and the border turns gold but no flight plan. I've used it for years but it just started this stuff recently. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it keeps doing the same thing. Any ideas?

Hmmm, never seen that before?? Does the flightplan still show in the flightplan window? Is it just not showing on the map?

Take some screenshots :)

A nice addon for Plan-G appeared on flightsim.com yesterday. A custom Tile-set definition for MapBox. It completely changes the look of the map tiles, with loads of information, and a really good topographical/aeronautical look.

http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php ... g_v1_0.zip

The readme has very good step-by-step instructions on how to get it working, and the results are certainly worth the effort :)

Thanks for the heads up Sean, the link you posted didn't work for me but it wasn't a problem, I just typed Plan g in the search and it was the first one that came up, I knew I had the right one when I saw your comment lol.

It must be my age, I got totally lost trying to do this addon, I'll have another look at it later and try again.

Oops... pays to paste the right link huh? Post updated with the *right* link!

If you follow the readme step by step, noting the ID and KEY as you go it does work. Hardest part was finding the right buttons to click on in the MapBox "Classic" interface :)
