Tango's workbench
Re: Tango's workbench
The last image I saw was it and some others wrapped up on Scampton's runway, but that was in Oct/Nov last year. They could have moved anywhere by now, or indeed still be there.
Re: Tango's workbench
Follow-up question for Leeming-do larger aircraft (e.g. Atlas, Hercules, Globemaster III) tend to park on taxiway A or runway 03/21? The main apron seems too restricted.

Re: Tango's workbench
There's actually plenty of room on the main apron, certainly for a C-130. I never parked anywhere else at Leeming.

Went past Scampton today and there is a SU-22 F-4 and a Buc all wrapped up at the end of the runway

Re: Tango's workbench
Thanks Tim. I'll fit a couple of 21-radius spots on the apron then. Personally I don't have C-17s landing there so I think I'll avoid having anything bigger than that.
Thanks for the update Gary. HHA have now updated their website to state that the Bucc and Su-22 are at Leeming (it wasn't like that a couple of weeks ago when I last looked). Obviously that is not true given what you just said, but it might be a statement of intent, or just a lazy ctrl+f search to replace Scampton with Leeming!
In the meantime, I will pretend that they have all moved to Leeming-the scenery I'm putting together will provide the spots should people want to see the Bucc there.

Re: Tango's workbench
I have just uploaded the Bucc repaint to the download hangar-it will be available once someone has had the chance to approve it.
The Leeming scenery still has a few issues that need sorting. Anyone know how to exclude Orbx trees and buildings? Most could be excluded in the normal fashion but others are being stubborn (like the trees in the shot above actually).
My hope is to provide both Orbx and vanilla versions.

Re: Tango's workbench
I think Tim and I discussed exclusions like these some months ago, regarding Eggebek AB.
It was akin to making the scenery float on top of a photoscenery I have, using an exclusion. So maybe not totally like your issue, but maybe close enough?
Maybe Tim could jump in here and tell me that I'm off my rocker?

Re: Tango's workbench
I've never had a problem with Orbx trees growing where they aren't wanted! What Orbx sceneries have you got installed that affect UK? If you have England (North) or True Earth they'll have their own versions of EGXE which will need deleting, but you'd have had other issues which would have made that obvious.
Re: Tango's workbench
I've got True Earth installed at the moment, but nothing with EGXE in the file name is installed except the new scenery files I am working on.
There's probably something obvious somewhere.

Re: Tango's workbench
I've just reinstalled the various Orbx products I have that cover that area. I'll load a third party EGXE and see if I can see any obvious snags. I have True Earth UK South, but I don't think it covers Yorkshire.

Re: Tango's workbench
Something in the Orbx UK products is causing an issue with my GPU, which is crashing after just a few minutes. It's a 12GB AMD 6750XT, so it really should be ok but it doesn't like it!
However, both Orbx EU Eng and, I suspect, True Earth UK (North) have their own versions of EGXE. True Earth UK (South) doesn't quite reach that far north, but within its boundaries it includes Orbx versions of most of the UK airfields, so I've no reason the believe the North package doesn't have Leeming. I was using an updated version of the old UKMil EGXE to test it and it did successfully obscure the Orbx scenery, but I did make sure all of the Orbx stuff was below my sceneries in the loading order (using Lorby's P3D Addon Organiser).

Re: Tango's workbench
Thanks very much for having a look Tim. I will double check things in the addon organiser myself and deactivate things until I hopefully find the culprit.
Re: Tango's workbench
An update for RAF Lossiemouth which is very nearly ready to share (just final bug checks, permissions and paperwork to sort out). It will be P3Dv4 only.

Once that is done, back to Leeming, where the terrain polygon is really starting to get on my nerves

Re: Tango's workbench
My home is in a complete mess at the moment as it's being re-thatched and I'm building an extension (yes, I'm doing the work myself!). I've also got my son's wedding coming up next weekend. However, I do need to get back on-speed with Brazil and so next week after the clocks go back and daylight disappears I'm going to brave the unheated garden office and get my scenery head back on.
What problems are you having with the Leeming terrain polygon?
Are there any photos available of the Wedgetail building at Lossie? I could consider doing an update of that bit of the airfield if there's enough info. I appreciate that it's too late for your re-release, and I can't make any guarantees that I can do a decent job, but I'm happy to have a look at it.

Re: Tango's workbench
Tim,
It might be worth downloading nickb's lossie in MSFS as he has regularly updated it with new buildings. It might be useful.

Re: Tango's workbench
Good point Steve.
That said, I've just spent a wasted hour or so trying to replicate some problems someone had using an A320 FMGC in MSFS so I could try and advise them. Good grief, that simulator is opaque and so user-unfriendly! It's not just nasty for developers, it is positively hostile to users as well. The best advice I could give was 'use P3D'.

Re: Tango's workbench
Tim,
I took that advice when MSFS came out. It was on my system for about 30 minutes, before I decided that my life would be so much better without it...

Re: Tango's workbench
Tim, if you can/want to tackle the E-7 facility that would be brilliant. I didn't find many photos and pretty much ignored it for the update as it is not yet on google maps but the RAF press release below shows some images of the front.

Its no issue if it isn't ready before I release the rest-I can always add it afterwards.
As for Leeming, I was trying to use TS Pro, but despite it appearing to do everything properly, when the amended terrain .bgl goes into the sim I end up with 25,000 feet worth of trench around the airfield. I'd rather not do it the slow way using ADE, but the way that the ground lies around the airfield means it really needs a shaped poly of some kind. I'll have another proper look once Lossie is out of the way.

Re: Tango's workbench
I've had a good look at Nick's MSFS Lossie - no need to download and install it in the sim, there are over 30 screenshots on flightsim.to. He's obviously had access to some of the developers' resources, but there are now quite a few photos online of some of the completed buildings, I can't find any of the completed extension to the Atlantic Building, however - I've found a concept illustration, but no more than that. There is also a new hangar on the newly-extended P-8/E-7 apron, which also is conspicuously absent from the photo record. For the moment. Lossie is probably a bit much to take on just now so I'll make no promises but I'll look again over the winter.
As for Leeming, is it not worth using FSET v2 to create a background phototile? I've used it a lot in the Brazil project, and I can do an airfield background in around an hour or two (with no significant editing).
