On 24 June 2025, Airbus announced that the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) had ordered two additional Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, bringing the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) to a total of 12.
The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029. This expansion aligns with the formal accession of Sweden and Denmark to the MMF programme, enhancing European strategic autonomy and strengthening collective defence capabilities.
The two nations join the original six participants: the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Norway.
In addition to the Main Operating Base in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and the Forward Operating Base in Cologne (Germany), a third forward operating base is planned in Denmark to support regional operations, particularly enhancing Nordic air mobility, medical evacuation readiness, and refueling coverage. This addition increases strategic flexibility for NATO operations in Northern Europe.
