In my last post I said I had to stop using FS2004 because my old computer stopped working and there are no new computers with disc drives and even thought I downloaded FS2020 it doesn’t work all the time and when it does work I just don’t have the interest and I lost the drive and confidence to fly so I no longer fly
Someone said if I ever wanted to get back to using FS2004 all I need is a portable CD ROM drive I have a confession if I were to do that it would erase the memories I made on my old computer using FS2004 so I can’t do it
Confession
Re: Confession
Allow me a quote: "it would erase the memories I made on my old computer".
Why would a portable CD-ROM drive do that?

Re: Confession
How does installing FS2004 on the new computer, erase the installation on the non-working one?

Re: Confession
Also why is this thread called "confession" and who or what was sinned against???? Also do we even want to know how for that matter??? This is very bazar....
Re: Confession
I think that what Andy is saying that somebody has told him that getting a portable CD drive will mean that he can install FS2004 on his new computer.
I grant you that it is not clear.
However, since those days MS has blocked its own software piracy system it is still hard to do. As far as I can see the only option might be to buy the steam version of FS2004 - if it is still available.

There have been times where I’ve thought about returning to FS2004 but I just can’t do it

Re: Confession
Andy, FSX is still available (usually very cheaply) via Steam. No disc drives required. It will use much of your FS9 (2004) scenery and aircraft, and much of the FS9 stuff has been updated here to run natively on FSX. It's similar enough to FS9 that you'll feel pretty instantly at home, and it's likely to be supported for a good while yet.
Re: Confession
FS2004 install from a portable CD along with the NOCD Patch works fine even to this very day on Windows 10 and 11. This install process does require a basic understanding of setting security criteria for the folder locations post install so add-on scenery installers can do so error free as well. It is the reason I have not transitioned to FSX or P3D and stuck with what I consider the tried and true setup that I have spent so many hours creating.

Re: Confession
I think by memories he means everything he has done on fs2004 so far, flights, addons, saves, etc, if this is the case and you are pc literate and know how to remove a hard drive and insert it into a new pc or even a hdd docking station, this would help you get any files, downloads, saves etc back from your old FS2004 setup and put back into your new pc..

Re: Confession
I’ve realized another reason why I can’t go back to using FS2004 if I were to do that I would have to download all the old add ons I had before and that would take time and honestly I just don’t want to go through that time again I think or know many of of them aren’t even available anymore
Looking back I enjoyed using FS2004 but I would have done some things differently there’s flights I would have made freeware add ons I would have downloaded payware add ons I would have bought etc they’re too numerous to list though in addition I would haven chosen my words better when posting on the MAIW forum
Having said all that do I miss FS2004 of course desperately really but I’ve had a lot to distract me in the years since I’ve stopped using it
I work for the Atlanta Braves as a greeter and we won the World Series in 2021 I even got a World Series ring when I’m not working there I work at a wine and spirits store stocking wine and spirits I’ve gone on some great trips
I seldom use my computer I mostly use my iPad and iPhone
I still love aviation always have always will
