There's a decent Diego Garcia scenery on AVSIM featuring the B-2A shelters. Not sure about traffic... I believe there is a KC-10 plans file but not much else.
KevinJarvis wrote:Yeah, the DC scenery is nice, but the large aircraft shelters just aren't big enuf for a Buff or B2.
The shelters at FJDG are specifically designed only for the stealth bombers. There are no shelters there for any other aircraft(as far as I know, it's possible I am wrong though).
They only shelter B-2s, the Buff's and Lancer's aern't any big secret that needs to be hidden . Plus they're not covered in RAM so, unneccessary weathering isn't that big of a deal to them

And I thought the B2's went direct from Whiteman to target and back.
Nope, not anymore. Those 44 hour missions were, obviously, very taxing on a 2 person crew, and since the B-2 fleet is relatively small....imagine doing that flight at LEAST 2wice a week. That's why the shelters were created, because the B-2s had to return to Whiteman because of a lack of "suitable" housing conditions at airfields closer to the AOR.
Those shelters are not permanent, they're temporary. They're climate controlled and transportable, and it takes about a month to fully erect them. The island only has 6 of them so no more than 6 B-2s can be kept "safely" on the island.

Not sure where you got six from... they only rotate four B-2A aircraft out there at a time, there is only four shelters visible, and the article even states they only asked to build four shelters.

KJ,
As previously mentioned, all bombers(to include the B-2A) take turns stationed at Diego Garcia. The B-2A that just crashed, crashed at Diego Garcia while returning from deployment. They were replaced by six B-52Hs and when their deployment is up, they will be replaced by B-1bs.
My bad, I meant 4 I dunno why I typed 6 lol.
The B-2 crash happened at Anderson AFB, Guam not Diego Garcia.
