What are these red markings for, I've seen them at many military bases? Are they VIP "red carpet" type markings for when the big whigs visit?

If I had to guess I would agree with you, but I've never seen that before. Where was that photo taken?

I've noticed similar red lines at US air bases, I wonder if they're VIP parking? (akin to the red carpet).

Those spots are for VIP Parking. Nearly all US Military bases have them.
