Excellent FSX NAS Pensacola download

Post by Ford Friendly »

Uploaded today.

On both avsim and flightsim
Flightsim file description
FSX Scenery--Naval Air Station Pensacola
Name: fsx_knpa.zip Size: 36,786,654 Date: 03-12-2008
FSX Scenery--Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida (FL). Forrest Sherman Field (KNPA) is cradle of Naval Aviation, home of Training Air Wing Six, and the summer home of the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron. This has photoreal ground textures and building textures where available. By Jim Dhaenens.

I had to get it from Flightsim as avsim's library wouldn't load for me so far this morning.

Hey Ford, will this also work backward to FS9?

I don't think so. The readme says it's set up specifically for FSX.. but, what the heck. Why not try it?

Edited to add:
The only FS9 "scenery" he has listed on Flightsim.com is Generic Hangars

But he has also uploaded the following FSX-specific sceneries:
Naval Air Station North Island
NAS Jacksonville
NAS Oceana

Thanks FF, I'll give it a try and report back when I get a chance. Most of my Mil flying is in the Panhandle area so this would be cool if it worked. :D

Gator, same here, and being stationed there I wanted to check this out. Hope is can be "forced" to be used in FS9.

Well, I loaded it up and fired up FS9. It does not work right out of the box :? . I guess I should have realized that when I didn't see a familiar looking AFCAD in the scenery folder. Maybe someone knows how to make it backward compatible...? Or is this even possible?

It is possible to modify the AFX for FS9 by using AFX from Flight1. But distributing it would probably contravene the IP rights of the author.

I tried to take an AFX for FSX to FS9 using AFX without success, so might not be all that easy after the file has been compiled. Has anyone had any success doing this?

Only other solution is to do the work of rebuilding an original AFCAD to fit the Pensacola scenery. If done that way, it can be distributed freely. However, did your try verify that the scenery (excluding the AFCAD) work ok in FS9?

Good idea, I already have some good AFCADs, and I'm sure there was at least one or two on this site from members working KNPA. If the scenery works, an FS9 AFCAD would be cake.

I had a blank airfield. There was not even any default scenery. But now that I think about it, KNPA was not an "active" airport in the default sense anyway so there may not have been any scenery before. Does FS9 recognize the FSX .bgl's? :?

It did have default building but no parking spots before I made my AFCAD.
