Classic Airforce Aircraft for AI

Post by Thunderbolt47 »

Good Evening Gentlemen,

I am new here and this is my first posting. I was wondering if perhaps anyone, other than myself has searched for some of the more classic USAF transports, fighters, and bombers of the past for use in today's flight sim's ? The aircraft I guess I would be asking about are planes such as the B-36, C-124, C-133, C-121, C-119, C-82, B-47, B-58, B-29/B-50, C-123, DeHavilland Caribou/Buffalo or perhaps something like the Convair T-29's (CV-240).

I guess what I am asking about are AI aircraft and flights plans through MAIW that have some of the "classic" military aircraft of the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. Or has this question already been asked and answered ? Personally I would love to see any or all of the aircraft I mentioned, used with some ficticious flight plans from MAIW.

Now, for a bit of a shameless plug, MAIW does some VERY FANTASTIC work and I use all of the ones that I have been able to download and install, when time permitted, of course.

Just my two cents,

Thanks for letting me ask my questions and become part of the discussion,

Paul

Hi Paul and welcome. There is great interest in retro military AI here at MAIW...see the AI F-14 that was released a few weeks back. There may be some more things coming this year...perhaps not THAT far back but definitely retro.

Keep in mind that EVERY model released is the result of several months of designing, texturing and testing.

See this post here for some of the military models that have been released or are in development here and elsewhere. Please note that there are things in the MAIW Skunkworks laboratory that you won't find in those pages. Muhuhahahahahaa!!!

Hi Paul and welcome to MAIW.

First, thanks for the kind words. While I don't have much to do with MAIW other than beta testing, I do get to see alot of nice and new things. Such as Nicks new RAF Hawk that we just released.

I too, am a lover of the older military airforce stuff. I have every repaint of Warwick Carters wonderful P51. I actually have alot of the aircraft that you mentioned.

Unfortunately, no one has taken the time to model AI friendly versions.
I have a couple of personal packages which include the Mustang..I was attempting to recreate a bit of the nostalgia that was A Gathering of Mustang and Legends that happened this year at Rickenbacher airfield.

I also have a B47 at Kadena that simulates one of my favorite movies. Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart.

If you don't use too many of the flyable models you can sometimes get away with using them as AI.
But watch out if you do. Sometimes flyable models do strange things when used as AI.

But heck, for me, thats just part of the fun ...or should I say obsession with FS9.

Hi Paul. I've held an interest in some classic military AI models myself, for a long time. I've not been successful in finding any to speak of, however. There are some models over at California Classics's but generally transport types that could be ok with repaints.

I'd love to be able to place a/c at all of the aviation museums around the country/world that maintain flyable a/c, and flight plan these a/c for modest local TNG's and weekend flights to an airfield central to each region for fly-ins such as CAF holds from time to time. I would think that weekend gatherings of warbirds would be cool, and perhaps someday an airshow package that would replicate the Tora, Tora, Tora flybys etc, along with the other ususal events (as best can be simulated in fs9 - see the MAIW Anniversary Package) , and of course a Grand Finale Heritage flyby to end the day.

Well, until either I learn to model (not really talented tho) or someone who does model decides to make AI appropriate models it will just remain a dream. Hope someone takes pity on us!

Welcome aboard!

Hi Guys,

Thank you to everyone who responded to this. I am definitely not a designer nor a painter of the old(er) planes, and I wouldn't even know where to begin to redesign anything to make it AI friendly. I guess I am sort of a neophyte when it comes to the AI aircraft and basically have relied on others efforts with which to enjoy some of the military AI flights. Heck, to be perfect honest with you, I don't even really know how to add other "custom" paint jobs or textures to the existing aircraft that I have flown.

Funny thing is, I used to be able to do anything I wanted to in FS98 and began to lose my "touch" after FS2000 came out. I am in FS2004 at the moment but I do have the FSX program and accelerator package all ready to go, but I have to build myself a faster system first. I know that there are quite a few fighters out there of the "Century Series" such as the F-104 (?) as an AI aircraft I am unsure of how to proceed with them even if I were to download them. So I have basically stayed away from them. But, now, with the ability to ask questions here on the forum, perhaps I may have better luck with building up the current FS2004 program I am already running.

Thanks again guys....

I'll be back !
