A-10 Retro Repaints

Post by Fastair »

Hi all,
This is just a fingers crossed question. Is anyone of you talented painters out there working on any retro repaints for A-10 please ? Have been looking at the Osan A-10 and have been thinking how good it would look in its two tone green and grey camo.
In particular Woodbridge and Bentwaters, but long term there are plenty of other units that could benefit from this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who flies a retro AI world.

Thank you for your time guys.
Regards,

Fastair,

Although we have dabbled in Retro packages, (TopGun just one) It is not our main focus. The Military world is so immensely huge as it is nowadays, but to cover the world of the past as well would be more work than any of the small amount of guys here can achieve. All I can suggest is that you, as many of us at MAIW have done before, is take it upon yourself to get the paintkit and models and give it a go yourself. Not only will you be astounded at what you can achieve but you will learn some great skills that will enable you to make more and more packages in the future, and then if you have time, come onboard here at MAIW and help out on our plethora of packages that need doing.

Hi Nick,
Many thanks for the reply, I appreciate you guys can't cover all possabilities and frankly you guys provide more than enough for us. I have never repainted before and would love to give it a go, steep learning curve I'm sure, but willing to try anything.
I hope you didn't take this as a request, I know you guys don't like that. I put it in this part of the forum to see if anybody was maybe working on this.
Where would I get the paintkit from please and what program should I use to paint and experiment?

Thanks again for all your help and the packages so far.

Fastair,

Indeed mate no worries. I just wanted to apease you to the fact that I'd seen your post but I dont think we can do anything about it at the moment. You would need Photoshop or Paintshop Pro for texture editing. I recommend Photoshop myself.

The paintkits can be got from the original model I believe, or failing that email Ryseik Winawer himself.

foufure,
Many thanks for the heads up, not sure how I missed those. Would still like to have a stab at painting myself. Perhaps the Jaguar in retro schemes. Now there's a thought........

Thanks again.

I'm still new to this, I shall have a go at some retro RAF ones first and see how I get on. not sure if MAIW are going to produce any French ai Jaguars, however, I might try and do some for the RAF Jags. A bit of artistic licence perhaps.

Fastair,

There are indeed some A10 repaints already produced. I have a mind to do some for the time and bases you specify but although I have the scheme started I will not be finishing it yet. It is certainly interesting with three colours wraparound.
I have asked Nick for the Jaguar paintkit and anticipate doing some circa 1990 RAF repaints.
I have a load of RAF Tornados in grey green camo circa 1990 nearly done but I have some other painting to finish yet, I haven't forgotten you Jan. I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet but trying to save some duplication.

Sorry, seems I was late to this thread but yes there are a few A-10 retro AI repaints on AVSIM. I uploaded both a RAF Bentwaters scheme and a Myrtle Beach scheme. Just do a search under the name Winawer and it should pull up my schemes plus many others. Here are some screenies of a AFRES A10 based at Grissom AFB Indiana which I never uploaded. If you want the scheme just let me know.
