AI F111 and Carbou

Post by Mile High »

Will there ever be a good F111 and Carbou for AI.
Those that are available cause a heavy hit.

I've been gathering F-111 resources for a while, at the last air show I was going all around one taking close up shots of everything
They look a bit scary to try to model though  things like engine intakes are new to me!
I do plan to give it a go at some stage though.

Hi Drew,
For sure the F111 has lots of odd lines that make modelling very difficult, hence a lot of LOD's are need to be considered, probally about 9.

Now retired FS designer Mike Stone, developed a great looking F111, model, however with the on-set of scenery development and many other AI aircraft design now in the FS skies, his model never kept up with the need for better frame rates and removal of that dreded loading pause.
No reflection on Mikes work, I guess he just didn't have the time.

Perhaps you may wish to download Mike Stones F111 model and study its design and continue Mikes excellent work, he may even help you with ideas. The PAI developers are also a great information source as well as Nick Black and many others from the MAIW team.
I look forward to seeing your work in a MAIW package.

AFAIK, there is no one currently working on an AI F-111. Would be cool though.

There is an AI F-111 available as part of RAAF AI v1.1.zip from aussim.com.

I do not remember how good it is.

Why can’t they keep the colours in the bloody paint pots and just leave them grey

Absolutely right, Graham, and I have that little beastie installed. It would just be nice to have an improved one.

I have the original FSDS source file for it if someone wants to work on improving it. Dave doesn't mind, provided he's credited in the final documentation.
