Aircraft not displaying correctly. Anyone seen this?

Post by Ford Friendly »

I just installed the NBAI F-15's at Kadena manually and have run into a weird display problem.

First, I am running FSX, not FS9.
Second, all other aircraft display correctly - everywhere.
Third, I've previously installed these paints before without problems.

FSX has this weird issue where distant aircrat first display white and then later, as you get closer, display their painted colors.

Well, the issue now is that this is my "display sequence, for the F-15s at Kadena right now.
White... unpainted at a distance.
Dark (black?) as I approach - sort of like the paint is being applied as I get closer.
Then blue-white - see this link.

Anyone ever seen this or have any ideas about what is happening?

It is the Alpha channel of the repaint being black or very dark.

The Alpha channel is used to make paints reflective, as used for the reflective metal part of Air Force One. I do not know if the paint is at fault or it is FSX, I could not help with the latter as I am still on FS9 but PM the texture folder for the aircraft in question I can have a look.

Why can’t they keep the colours in the bloody paint pots and just leave them grey

Its not only an FSX issue mate, I get the same at Valley with the Hawks and at Holloman with the F-117s. Its a bit obvious when the schemes are inherently black.

Of course, I am laying myself open to the Holloman isn't a problem any more quotes, but this sentence should take about take care of that  .

Weird Display Problem

Post by ianc »

Hi All

First post on the forum and must say what an excellent resource MAIW is and thanks to all the talented people who produce the packages

I have exactly the same problem but not only with MAIW aircraft. No technical expert but appeared to happen once"shiny" schemes became more the fashion. If it helps with a diagnosis my system is:
Dell 9100 3.2 Pentium4 Hyperthread
2048 mb RAM
NVIDIA 7600GT 256mb

I've noticed it with the Hawks at Valley, had assumed it was something to do with the LOD models. No big deal, but would be nice if there was an easy fix....! :D

Okay, found the culprit IS "refl.texure". Removed this from all F-15C Kadena texture folders and the aircraft now display correctly.

Weird. I don't remember having had to remove this before.

But reflective textures aren't a necessity for me, so all's good now.

Thanks for the input fellas.

I have PM'd some reworked textures. I think I know what is going on but not having FSX I need you to tell me if I am correct.
