Are FSX AFCAD's compatable with FS9? I have been looking at the military fields by Jim Cook and would like to give them a try.
Thanks in advance

Yes and no.
FSX afcads may have certain attributes that may/will not show up in FS9.
FSX-specific afcad attributes include
- vehicle pathways (living world - airport vehicles)
- embedded fencing
- embedded exclusion areas
- embedded taxiway signs
- background images
OTOH, other attributes like runways, taxiways and apron polys are common to both FSX and FS9.
I just looked at Jim Cook's Moody AFB (KVAD) afcad and here's what I found.
1. He used AFX to create the afcad and saved it in FSX format. (This is one of three FSX-capable design programs, the other two being Airport Design Editor and FSX Planner. The three programs use specific formats and are not 100% interchangeable - that is, designs in one are not 100% compatible with being redesigned in the two other programs.)
2. He included exclusion rectangles, taxiway signage, and fencing in this afcad - rendering it problematic for direct-to-FS9 use.
3. His generic RAMP MIL_COMBAT parking radii is 55.3 feet. This is an illustration of the FSX standard - parking spaces are now based on wingspan radii in feet (and then converted behind the scenes to meters).
That said, I don't think that Jim Cook's Moody AFB afcad will work directly in FS9 - especially since it was saved in FSX format. The reverse is not true - afcads designed for use in FS9 are usable in FSX (at least I haven't yet found one that isn't).
But install it and see. I no longer have FS9 installed. At worst, you waste some time. At best, you find it works satisfactorly for you.
