Patrick AFB (KCOF) A-10

Post by starlifterfan »

A road was temporarily closed Monday afternoon as ground crews checked the weapons on two A-10 aircraft diverted to the base. The Air Force said two A-10 Thunderbolts on a training mission at Avon Park Air Force Range in Polk and Highlands counties were diverted to Patrick AFB because of bad weather at Macdill AFB in Tampa. An Air Force spokeswoman said that to ensure the safety of the public,a portion of South Patrick Drive (The road leading in to the south security gate)on base was closed for a few minutes until the planes guns were deemed safe.

A-10s are a pretty common site at Patrick these days. When I was stationed there (about 2 years ago), the use to come down and fly CSAR with the 920 RQW. I have a flight of 4 that hang out there in FS9 :D
