Compatability

Post by theoklahomaaviator »

I downloaded and installed every available package from your downloads page for the US. I came across some old packages for ANG on http://www.simviation.com. They are named:
Plains States ANG package http://www.simviation.com:80/fs2004scenery57.htm
Southwest ANG package http://www.simviation.com:80/fs2004scenery58.htm
and AK and Islans ANG package http://www.simviation.com/fs2004scenery62.htm

I need to know if it is ok to go ahead and install these packages along with all the ones that I already have. I am most insterested in the Plains and Southwest packages. I just dont want to mess up any of the MIAW packages that are allready installed. Please help, Thank you for your time!,

Hi Adam,
Firstly the packs by Dan are well worth installing, in fact you can trace the heritage of MAIW in them. Due to this fact, all subsequent MAIW packs have been designed with their existence in mind.

You will notice that we have continued the theme by updating his SouthEast ANG package. There is also a West Coast ANG Military AI package by the same author, which I think you can find on simviation fs2004 scenery page 74.

Admittedly I installed those packs first, but I think that the only work I have ever had to do was when I replaced Dan's SouthEast package with ours.

Hopefully this helps.
Steve

Thank you very much! I am glad to hear that they wont have a negative effect. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of you involved with MAIW past and present for such an awsome set of add-ons for FS. It is very exciting to finally fly military aircraft and not be alone in the sim. I am very much looking forward to the addition of the F/A-18s that are being produced. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks,
Adam

I have also installed the older packs by Dan and I have had no problems at all,as before mentioned these are good packages and worth the download.Of course make sure not to have duplicate AFCADS,anyways ,one thing I have found is that any question regarding MAIW packages and compatabilty with others will be answered with some fantastic people here at MAIW...Thats why this website is way above the others in all aspects regarding Flightsim questions,it amazes me that so many people spend hours working on a package and will be more than happy to help to ensure that (All) of our flightsim questions and needs will be met.Thanks.

I might add that you should learn how to substitute newer models for older. Some of Dan's older packs used a not very frame rate friendly F-15 for example, and it is easy enough to replace it with the Nick Black F-15 which is full AI and much better in every way. I think that even all the repaints you will need are now available, either in our own packages or on avsim.

well from the Southwest Package I have
Specific Credits

Models:

- C-26 (Metro III) by Dee Waldron

- C-130 by David Friswell

- F-16 by Hrvoje Kovacevic

Repaints:

- KC-135R by Graham King

- C-130s by Graham King

- C-26s by Dan Bourque

- F-16s by Dan Bourque

From the Plains package I have
Specific Credits

Models:

- C-21 by Henry Tomkiewicz

- C-130s by Henry Tomkiewicz

- F-16s by Henry Tomkiewicz (with afterburner effect based on Jan Rosenberg’s work)

Repaints:

- KC-135E/135Rs by Graham King

- C-130s by Graham King

- C-21 by Dan Bourque

- F-16s by Dan Bourque

And from the Alaska/Island package I have
Specific Credits

Models:

- F-15 by David Bushell (FDE based on Henry Tomkiewicz’s excellent F-16 FDE)

- C-130s by Henry Tomkiewicz

Repaints:

- KC-135R by Graham King

- C-130s by Graham King

- HC-130s by Graham King

- F-15s by Dan Bourque

The C-130 and KC-135 models I think are up to date.
Which F-16 model is the more current/better one? Henry Tomkiewicz or Hrvoje Kovacevic???
And obviously I need to go to the Nick Blacks F-15
Please help if you can, thanks

This takes me back a few years :)

I noticed at the start of the list that the C-130's are by David Friswell. I would replace them with Henry's model. You should be able to find some suitable paints by me on AVSIM. I remember coming home from holiday to find Henry had released the C-130. I think I spent a fortnight doing every USAF squadron I could find.

Why can’t they keep the colours in the bloody paint pots and just leave them grey
