WOW she's a beauty...Ive had the pleasure of being on board the Volga Dnepr AN-124's many times loading cargo, and I must say they have done her justice in wonderfully good fashion.

It's incredibly ironic to see these in real life flying in and out of military bases in North America and Europe, hauling cargo for the NATO forces.

It's quite ironic indeed to hear Russian aircraft go in and out of this place with an ISAF callsign, but I guess money is more important than politics

Heck we even use Chinese satellites to relay our ground-air communications

Yes I've taken that one a while ago during another day of "blowing dust". I'll try to upload some more spotting pictures later

Kabul is not too bad, or at least the airport isn't because there's a lot of stuff going on downtown. We've been lucky on quite a few occasions though

But the job is great! The mixture of military and civilian traffic, heavies and lights, fixed and rotary wings etc is so unique, that I feel very lucky to be given this opportunity, and it's an experience I might never have again for the rest of my ATC career.

I miss flightsim though, and specially you guys. The real stuff just isn't quite the same

I saw one land at McChord AFB last week, I was amazed how big they are.

my job for the air force is to unload cargo, and i have been in those things, they suck in the fact all pallets have to be forklifted off, no rollers like the US made a/c

When I worked on the ramp of the PANC Int'l airport, I marshalled many of them in and out including the first in PANC around 1990 or so on a sunny chilly winter day. I got on board them many times including the cockpit area, avionics access, and the crew section in the upper back.

Some cargo was on or off loaded as the 124s were passing through mostly but the cargos were always interesting. As I recall there was a twin rail overhead crane system.

I enjoyed talking to the crews and cargo reps.

Glad to see AI ideas coming along.
