making flyable into ai

Post by drydocker »

I was wondering if someone might know of the program that changes flyable aircraft into ai aircraft. I use to have it but I cant locate it.

Just remove panels, sounds and gauges. Then you have a very basic ai aircraft.. though not by the definition and standards of the modellers here.

I used to do this with many FS2004 and FS2000 aircraft.

Hi,

Try this program found on Avsim.com

ga-traffic_setup.zip

I've used it and it has a module that reduces the texture files of the aircraft you select to make AI. Then after it runs you will find a new aircraft folder for the aircraft you converted. The folder will be labeled GA-AI and the rest of the original name. I also go inside and strip the sound and panel folders and anything else that is not needed by the AI plane.
The issue you might have with using this program is that when it reduces the texture files, you can sacrifice some of the clarity and end up with blurry AI planes in your scenery. This is not always noticeable. In some cases you might reduce a texture folder from 5MB to less than 1MB.

If you don't want to see the new AI in the list flyable aircraft just edit the .AIR file to change the Aircraft type=0 to 2

You can see from the screen shot there are a whole lot of functions in GA-AI that I didn't mention because I've never used them. You can probably make random flight plans as well. Good luck.

I looked for that yesterday but couldn't find it.

I did however find at flightsim.com................

gatraffi.zip

It does appear to be the same program, and it does work.
Cheers fellas............... :P

I think it should be pointed out, especially for newbies, that this program will not add LOD's to the aircraft which is the main thing that makes an ai aircraft frame-rate friendly. Most user flyable aircraft also have an FDE that will not necessarily work as ai and I don't believe this program addresses that either.

That being said, there are a lot of aircraft out there that have not been modelled as ai and I certainly have used the ui versions as ai aircraft, mostly with dissapointing results however, to fill a gap. :)

Good luck, and hopefully a real AI aircraft model for what you are looking for will be available soon. :D

This program gives you the opportunity to chose the flight dynamics of a default aircraft which can be used as AI.

It isn't perfect, but hey.
If it gives me the chance to have my fave aircraft in circuit, it's better than nowt.

I like it. end of.
Cheers fellah.

Glad you were able to find the program. I did find it on AVSIM before making the post here. Sorry it did't show up for you. I don't have the knowledge to go into details on LODs but I know it is a significant part of what the plane does to your performance. Good Luck!
