That is disgusting, but typical of the f**king stinking attitude of some people in the UK. Big reason why I left the military...no-one cares about you.

Following the release of this story the hotel was inundated with telephone calls from irate members of the public, some of which were abusive and a couple which were threatening. The hotel called the police. When the police looked into it they simply said that the hotel had brought it upon itself and the quickest way to stop the hassle was to apologise. So, the hotel have now apologised and the member of staff "given further training".

I've heard that the hotel received thousands of bookings in the days following, all of which were cancelled just before any fee was lost. It's cost them thousands.

I hope what CW is saying is accurate. The wallet is the best way to deal with this sort of thing. I sincerely regret that this happened to one of Englands' finest. I bet that there are more Englishmen who don't like it than there are that do. They need to organize, get vocal and make it clear that they won't tolerat that sort of thing again! Good luck!

I have avoided commenting on this thread up til now 'cos I thought the language I would need to use would be unacceptable. I think (and hope) Ronnie is right and that most people in the UK are as disgusted by this as I am. Regardless of any political or ethical feelings anyone might have, to discriminate against someone who has CHOSEN to serve his (or her) country in this way is totally unacceptable and should (as I believe has been suggested) be illegal.

I'd better shut up now before I get REALLY annoyed!

Rant over!
Where did I put my beer??!
