RAF Bentwaters

Post by rocket_26_ »

Heres a few pics of my latest project. With CGY not far from completion I have made a start on the twin bases. Myself and John Young will be co-building these. A few screens from a days work.

Great stuff! I'm looking forward to seeing the skies in that region populated with Warthogs again.

I was stationed at Bentwaters and Woodbridge from 90 to Mission Completion (AKA Base Closure) in May of 93. If I can be of assistance let me know. I look forward to seeing the completed package.

Looking foward to this one my Uncle used to run the post office at Tunstall just outside the base and across the road from the Green Man pub and I used to go with him to collect the post on base. I can even remember the F4's when I was realy young, I found the A10's a bit of disapointment after them!

Wasn't the "Green Man" the pub where one room had all the walls covered in guns (shotguns, flintlocks etc)? Seem to remember that from many years back.....

Thanks for the comments. This is a big project. It will be set in 1989 when the F-16s were based at Bentwaters.

The plan is:

-Paint the following:

-120 A-10s for the three bases using Rysieks A-10
-All F-16s of the 527 AS
-The C-130's of the 67SOS ( i think) based at Woodbridge
-The U2s from Alconbury
-At some point when a ai F-111 is availible we can add them for LN/UH

-Create flightplans for all the above with callsigns etc

-Create scenery for the Twins/Upper Heyford and Alconbury (Lakenheath is getting a new version but will be set in its current state)

-Add HAS and AFCADs at the forward locations in Germany for the A-10s.

Realistically this project wont be completed for a year but I intend on releasing in stages.

Rocket, you thought correctly, the 67th SOS used to be based at Woodbridge.

You can also add the KC-135s of the 11th Strat Group based at RAF Fairford during those days also.

Nov 1978 11th November, the 11th Strategic Group is re-activated.
Feb 1979 The Group received their first KC-135.
Sep 1979 The Group deploy to RAF Fairford with crews rotating every 45 days.
1981 The 11th SG are up to full strength with 15 KC-135s as part of the European Tanker Task Force.
June 1990 25th June, the last ETTF sortie is flown. 27th June, the last tanker leaves RAF Fairford.
Aug 1990 7th August, the 11th Strategic Group is de-activated again with all the tankers having left RAF Fairford for RAF Mildenhall.
Lead, Follow, or get the Hell out of the way!
