Hello and a desperate question.

Post by ShadowHawk141 »

Hi,

Let me first introduce myself.
My name is Elko Kuiper and I'm from Holland, I never used any AI traffic at all until I just recently got a new computer and now I'm completely hooked, WOW I was missing out big time until now.
The most marvelous AI I found is the ones MAIW produces, the quality of the aircraft their behavior the scenery I am completly awestruck !!!
I am extremely gratefull of what you guys are doing and that for free !!! WOW.

I do have a question though....
Since I am struck with the ai fever I wanted to make some of my own for the Leeuwarden (EHLW) Airbase in Holland.
I downloaded a scenery EHLW v2 package and a AI package from Avsim.
Unfortunatly the afcads didn't mach one another so I modded the afcad that came with the scenery matching the parking spaces of the AI package.
Everything works like a charm, plane come and go and park nicely at the shelters etc. except for one thing.
All AI airplanes are up in the air for a couple feet when parked and taxiing. I changed the contactpoint settings for the F-16's and it worked but there are also visitors comming by (LN F-15e eagles) and they also float in the air, when I change those contactpoints they will sink in the ground at the other bases like their homebase Lakenheath.
So the problem is just with EHLW and not with any other.

I realy hope someone can help me with this since being a dutchman EHLW is an airbase I realy like to fly from.

I thank you in advance for your time reading this.

Cheers,

Shadow, welcome aboard and I'm glad you enjoy our work, so do we to tell you the truth.

Sounds to me like the afcad elevation and the scenery elevation do not match. Is there any way you can tell what height your AI aircraft are at when they are floating? If you can figure that out, you might be able to adjust all the heights on the afcad you are using to match the scenery files.

BTW, adjusting the aircraft.cfg contact points just to fit this scenery is not a good idea. The aircraft should be left alone as this sounds purely like a scenery or mesh problem.

Thank you Mike for your welcome.

Enjoying your work is a bit of an understatement, one of my hobbies is spotting military aircraft and now I can do that even at home :)

You were right it had to do with the base elevation of EHLW.
I must be growing old (my kids repeatedly tell me so) because if I had tried out the search function here first instead of hollering for help I would have saved you the time.
I tried that app JaBBgl and adjusted the base fs9 elevation of EHLW by an estimated amount of how high the aircraft where floating above the tarmac an Bingo all is well :)

Again I'm sorry for not using the search function first, but I realy appreciate your fast response.

Many happy landings.
Cheers,
Elko

No problem, glad we could get you sorted out. I have managed to learn just a few things about FS over the last couple of years. I'm just glad I know enough these days to be able to help.

Hi Elko

JABBgl is a wonderful tool. It solves 99.9% of floating AI problems. Glad you are enjoying the MAIW stuff.

I read about this tool (after I searched this forum after I started hollering for help  ) and yes it's a remarkable tool and very easy to use.

I knew it hadn't to do something with the contact points of the ai aircraft since other airbases like your fantastic rendition of Lakenheath was working perfect. I just thought it odd that the contact points had any influence on the floating, it must mean that the ground was positioned higer then was visible.

Anyway I'm a happy person now because now I can fly from EHLW and encounter a traffic jam enroute to the runway :)

I live not so far from Leeuwarden airbase and go there very often for spotting when there are manouvres like Frisian Flag (a bit similar to Red Flag but then ten times smaller.) Great deal of visitors comming by then.
I was very pleasantly suprised to find a couple of your LN Strike Eagels on parking when I was flying from EHLW this morning !!

FS9 has come so much to life with the AI on 100%.
I should have gotten a new pc months ago !!

Thanks to the both of you for your help and warm welcome and keep up the great work your doing, it's very much appreciated !!

Cheers,
Elko

Elko,

Any chance you could post your AFCAD for Leeuwarden up here, as I have alot of aircraft go in and out of there and dont have any parking for them.

Cheers in advance

Hi Nick,

Of course you can have my afcad for EHLW.

I use the following files from avsim for Leeuwarden

For the AI
leeuwarden_air_base.zip made by John v/d Broek

For the scenery

ehlw-v20.zip made by Marcel Ritzema

And if everything works ok you can right click this link to my afcad and "Save as"

http://members.home.nl/eb.kuiper/AF2_EHLW_AI.bgl

It's by no means a very proffesional afcad but it works well for me :)

Cheers,
Elko

This is my first post so I will start with a big hello and thank you for all the great work you guys do here at MAIW, FS2004 skies have never been so well patrolled by military aircraft.

Anyway, I too had the same problem as ShadowHawk141 with the Leeuwarden scenery by Marcel Ritzema. I followed this thread and used JABBgl to lower the base scenery and this seemed to cure the problem, that was until I watched an aircraft land at EHLW. ( See pic below )

Image

As you can see the aircraft generated away from EHLW land and taxi a few feet above the scenery, however the aircraft generated at EHLW all park/taxi/take-off at the correct height. ( See pic below )

Im not sure if I am missing a trick here. Any advise would be a great help as I am running out of ideas.

Many thanks

John

Hi guys.
I'm in the process of making a RNLAF Fixed wing pack including all the F16s.

I will include two afcads, one if you have EHLW scenery and one if not.

Hi MACC

I will keep an eye out for your RNLAF Fixed wing pack. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

In the meantime I will keep on tinkering ( I like to know why things don`t work ).

I think it might need a fresh AFCAD created after the base level was lowered. I can`t think what else it might be.
