Your favorite flyable military planes?

Post by Joseph29 »

Thought this might be a fun topic. What is your favorite flyable military planes?

Here are mine:

F-16C and D made by Kirk Olsson
P-51D made by Warwick Carter
Mirage 2000 N made by Jonathan Hilaire and Roland Laborie
Mirage F1 made by Kirk Olsson
F-18 (E, F, and growler version) made by Team FS KBT
P-3 Orion made by Team FS KBT
C-130 Hercules made by Captain Sim

(All of these are freeware planes except for the C-130)

It was a challenge trying to justify mine since I've only flown 2 of these in real life. These are all payware except the default JetRanger and the Super Hornets.

Mine are:

T-37B by Project Sierra Hotel

AH-1W Super Cobra by AlphaSim

V-22 Osprey by AlphaSim

CH-46E Sea Knight by AlphaSim

AV-8B Harrier by Sigma Simulation Products

F/A-18 C and mostly D by Dean Reimer Aerial Foundry

F/A-18 E mostly F by Team FS KBT

T-2C Buckeye by Razbam

A-10 Warthog by Aerosoft

F-14A Tomcat by Iris

Other consideration for US Navy TC-12
(Beechcraft King Air B200) repainted as by Aeroworx

Default Bell 206B Jetranger (repaint as US Navy Th-57B)

For pure fun flying I recommend both the F-86 from Kirk Olsson and the Hawker Hunter series from Dave Garwood.

I noticed that recently lol. In my VA we have one month from the last PIREP to file another one or get kicked out, and usually I would do at LEAST one flight a week. Two weeks ago I remembered I had'nt flown in a while, checked my status and the day I checked was my deadline, OOPS!! . Just did a quick hop from KBUR-KLAS to stay current, crisis averted, position kept 8)

I used to fly Kirk Olsens F16 with the Airshow panel and do mid-air refueling.

But I've been on this Flanker kick with AI and I found an awesome Su34 Super Flanker at Avsim.

Dr. John van Kampen did and update of the model by Yosuke Ube.
This thing is awesome and you can get a radar guage that tracks AI.

My list is short in terms of true favorites though I try to fly any new "true FSX" freeware that comes my way.

1. Iris F-20 (the plane that should have filled the non-Sov-aligned skies of the world IMHO)
Alphasim AH-64D Longbow
2. Kirk Olsson's F-16
3. Dino Cattaneo's T-45C
4. MSFSX Acceleration F-18 (gotta love trying to land on a moving carrier in near 0-0 conditions!)
and 5. the default MSFSX Bell 206 (finally learned how to fly helo's in this beast - then "upgraded" the fde to "realistic" flight dynamics and my bruised ego is still recovering!)

I left out my F-16C and D by Kirk Olsson and F-16 by Lago.

I will probably soon acquire the new Aerosoft F-16 for FSX.

I'm hoping to one day get the F/A-18E being developed by Vertical Reality.

Sad but true, most of these I have bought and installed and only run up the engines and look at them from time to to like the F-104 Starfighter by CaptainSim. It's sort of like a model collection I guess.

I don't fly much either. In a 2 week time period I may only fly 3 times. I am usually fixing AFCADs, installing AI, checking out/installing new scenery.

And when I do fly I fly all the military planes for fun. I fly the airlines and business jets serious.

I'm a bit surpried that no one has mentioned the F4 yet! I like flying the IRIS FGR2 and the Alphasim Lightning F6.

Yep, I had the Cloud 9 F-4 and it was one of the jets that I would mostly look at and listen to while sitting on the ramp or just in the pattern.
