No Afterburners on nbairf4e

Post by flynby »

Using windows xp sp3, fs9. I use a GeForce 9600 gt nvidia graphic card 512 and 2 gb ram. New computer. Friend who also downloaded same F-4 has afterburners. Any ideas what would cause afterburners not to show?? On flyable F-4, F-14 ect, afterburners work.
Appreciate any help

You could be missing the afterburner effect file. Let me find out the name of the specific file for you to look for.

Look for a file in your FS9 effects folder named "fx_f16_ab_f4.fx" That is the effect that the NBAI F4F model uses, I'm assuming that the F4E model uses the same effect.

If you don't have that effect, I've attached it here. Add it to that folder and that might fix it for you.

You're quite welcome. Trust me, there are still things that we can't explain why they happen. That's why our support forum is never quite for too long.

Just so I can double check the package, which package was it that you downloaded to get the F-4 model?

Mike JG, I guess I should have said "NBAIRF4E.zip" just to be clear.

Mike, I have one other question. In the Texture folder, there are 4 bmp files. I assume the NBAI_RF4E_Phantom_l.bmp is for lights.
But there is a NBAI_Brake_Chute.bmp file. Does this require a Effects fx file also? Upon touchdown, there is no chute seen.

The NBAI_Weapons and the NBAI_Weapons2_bmp are not seen either.
I did place these bmp textures in the FS9 Texture folder and also in the
Addon Scenery/texture folder.
Is there a way to see weapons on the F4?
Thank you again for your time and help.

No worries. I had to download this package myself because I knew nothing about it.

Looks like the required effects files for the model were not included with the package. That is why the afterburners did not show up for you. It's one of those things where the person that created the package is assuming that you already have the AI model and therefore already have the required effects for it. Your friend probably had the effect already installed from downloading the MAIW package that contained Nick's model originally. You can get it here: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?Ca ... LID=126936

If you have not downloaded that original package you would not have all of the required effecs for the model. The nav lights and strobe lights effects are used on many other AI models so chances are, you already have those installed. But the afterburner effect is unique to this model.

As far as the other textures go, they only need to be placed into your FS9/Texture folder. They do not go into the addon scenery folder. I am assuming that some of the models in that package use a drag chute and some of them have weapons on them. If so, that's what those other texture files are for. To see the weapons you probably need to load up the "air superiority" version of the model. Again I'm not sure if the E model Phantom uses a drag chute, but if it does, it is part of the model and you would see that upon landing. It is not any kind of effect that you would need.

Right now the model is set to be hidden from the aircraft display menu, so you can not select them to see the differences. You need to change the aircraft type in the .AIR file from a "2" to a "0" to make it visible in the selection screen. If you don't know how to do that, just let me know and I'll send you the .AIR file with the changes needed.

Well Mike, I opened the air superiority folder and there was a mdl and a model cfg file only. I will download the file you spoke of and see what happens.

Many Thanks

That's the way it should be. You don't necessarily have to d/l that other package if you have all of the other needed effects already.

In that main aircraft folder from the F4 package there are 5 or 6 xxx.model folders, some texture folders, an Aircraft.cfg file and a NBAIF4.air file.

It's that NBAIF4.air file that needs to be altered. It might be named different than that, I'm going on memory right now.
