AI F111

Post by Ford Friendly »

The guys over at aussim/Voz have an AI F-111 in their ADF-AI package. Has anyone here considered taking a shot at some US/retro textures for it?

This is not an official request. I know those aren't worth the electrons it takes to type/display them. I'm just asking if anyone had considered doing it for themselves? (I've considered and tried doing it for myself, but my attempts at even simple repaints make child's art look like alien art.)

That F111 is one LOD only. Can't remember how many polys.
It is not a true AI... BTW.... better than nothing

Oh. I thought it was a multi-lod. My bust.

(A bunch on the ramps down under do look pretty good in FSX and I thought from the FPS I get with my system that they WERE multi-lod.) Oh well.

It's not to bad if you only have a few of them, like a flight of 4. Anything more than that crashes my system.

For me, a "bunch" is more than a dozen of these guys.

Even in FSX I'm still well above 15 FPS - well above "flyable" at 3500 feet and 350 kias without blurring or stuttering.

Using Mike Stone F-111's as AI makes a much bigger FPS hit on my system at the same location(s). I need to drop to 4-6 F-111s then - depending upon the weather I throw in.

Anyway, I guess this kinda reinforces the "customize for your OWN system". I just wish I had the hand-eye coordination to do repaints because, in this case, "true AI" isn't a necessity for me. (I've stuck >12 on the ramps at Edwards, Elmendorf and 2-3 other places just to test.)

An Upper Heyford/Lakenheath Retro package would a fun project. I used to have a few flying about a few years ago using the Mike Stone F111.

You are not the first person to say that, but the model comes first. Without that it remains purely a wish, for MAIW.
