Traffic files

Post by Rotten Ralph »

Possibly asked before, but how many traffic files can you have on FS9 & is there a limit to how many aircraft in a traffic file ?

Has been asked in a different forum before. As far as I remember there are known no limitations.

... or at least nobody here has reached it yet. You are more likely to reach the limit of your patience whilst waiting for it to start up.

For me about 15 minutes ...a good question that I have been wondering myself....I remember when I first got into FS9 all I had was the default airlines...(now gone),and replaced with airlines from around the world, plus every MAIW package.....!

15 to 25 mins? I don`t think I could wait that long for FS9 to boot up. I thought I had a lot of AI, god only knows what you guy`s have.
I have cut my packages down so that each squadron only has one aircraft in any one MAIW pack. This was probably a good idea as I dont have that fast a computer & my load up time is about 2 to 3 mins.

Hmmm, trying to load FS9 from a datacasette that would be an experience.

Yeah, that would be fun. I can imagine feeling like a DJ (or DCJ? ) when changing the datacassettes for the next few KB to load

Flight Simulator II would load into a Commodore 64 (but it only used 32K - the other 32K was for the system as I recall). There wasn't much detail in the sim though..

I still have the original discs, and the Commodore...
Which way is up?

5-6 minutes from desktop icon to cockpit for FS9 (default Cessna 172 at KSEA Seattle. Additional minutes are required to change aircraft and start location.

But I'm only running 125 traffic.bgl files.

I think at best with a base FS9 install I would get less than 2 minutes from click on icon to cockpit.

Once I tried to compile everything into one Mega file sort of like when you do PAI installs but keep the same Traffic.bgl main file. After awhile I couldn't keep up with re-numbering my personally made AI traffic so I went back to individual installs.

125 bgls total between MAIW, PAI, WOA, AIG, EVAI, and my own stuff, and some Just Flight Traffic stuff with just the helicopters.

This is probably small compared to a lot of people and definitely small compared to what's available. Still there are payware utilities that are invoked during FS9 load and the addon scenery files.

I'm also in the process of migrating/converting as much as I can to FSX not much loaded there yet. Current configuration goes from icon to cockpit in 8 minutes but FSX is a totally different topic in itself.

500+ traffic files installed (where available I changed from PAI to WoAI leaving just a few airlines and some manual installed stuff in the PAI file)
8000+ repaints
WoAI, PAI, MAIW, UGA and custom traffic

On a three year old laptop

I have 800+ bgls installed.

The maximum number of bgl's isn't limited, the maximum number of aircraft in a single bgl is limited to 65536.

In the text file you can add 65537 but that will be converted by ttools to AC#1

Definnitely looks like a power of 2 limitation.

2 to the 16th power is 65536 - 16 bit computing at its best.
Why waste 'trons for a snappy signature when I can use this?

Wow, 500+ and 800+ bgls! Now I must consider my virtual skies nearly empty. I know I am definitely lacking in the GA traffic arena. Good luck all!
