A little help identifying this location?

Post by Ford Friendly »

45* 4' 49.44" N 38* 56' 54.01" E
Just NNW of the city of Krasnodar, Russia

I believe this is a "Higher Air Force Pilot School", but don't have a clue as to the airport/air base name or its ICAO.

I've been trying to ID it for a week now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Um, that's an Air Order of Battle list from Wikipedia, right?
I'm looking for the name and/or ATA/ICAO code(s) for the air field at the coords I listed.

Sorry, it's not Krymskaya according to gc.kls2.com.
Location
City: Krymskaya, Russian Federation (Russia)
Near (Alt.): Novorossiysk
IATA: NOI

Details
Type: Airport (Aerodrome, Airfield)
Latitude: 44°57'52"N (44.964444)
Longitude: 38°00'05"E
I refer AGAIN to the original coords and point out that the airfield in question is a few kilometers from KRASNODAR.

Probably an old Soviet-era secret base? Remember that the Soviets used to build dummy (decoy) bases and also make their maps purposely inaccurate.

You can hardly call it secret if the RAF is allowed to pay a visit there

Link

It seems to be a huge training base with several names: Higher Air Force School and Higher Military Aviation School a.o.
I can't find an ICAO code for the airfield though. I doubt if it has one...

Greg, nice find. I hadn't run across that page yet. I can believe there's no IATA or ICAO code.

I've noticed several names for "tenants" also - apparently, the main tenant, the "school", has been renamed a few times since WW2.

I'm still looking for a name for the airfield or air base itself.

Kalinino? There looks to be quite a few stored aircraft there.

I've come across "Krasnodar North (Air Base)" a few times, but I doubt that's the official name. Probably a disambiguation with URKK Krasnodar Pashkovsky Airport which lies to the SE of the city.

Greg, where have you seen/read "Krasnodar North"? Got a link?

The reason I am looking into this base is to create it in FSX. As such, I need a name and that name seems fairly appropriate. But I 'd like to base what I name it on something (part of the reason I am "rejecting" --Kalinino-- is there's another Kalinino elsewhere in Russia and it **also** has no IATA/ICAO codes - so I'm trying to avoid confusion).

The best reference I can find again is this Excel sheet from a Ukranian private pilot school with a huge list of airfields in the CIS.

It also lists your airfield as "Krasnodar North" without ICAO code.

I'm sure there's a lot more info about this field on the Russian part of the web, but my Cyrillic is a bit rusty

Greg, that's a very nice spreadsheet.

I think I'll go with that name and make up an ICAO for FSX to use.

Thanks.

According to warfare.ru,
Mol'kino (Krasnodar) Latitude 44.8022, Longitude 39.2372
Tenants
-763 STORAGE NC 146 pers., 8 R-145BM
- 10 INDEP SPETZNAZ BDE NC formed 2003; 3,500 pers. 08.2008 unit took part in war in South Ossetia. Losses: 2? Killed

Tha's an Army base, Goggle Earth for that location shows no runway and is a fair distance from the airfield I am looking at.

I consider this puzzle solved now. Thanks to all who helped or tried to.
