Get your Nimrod flightplans!

Post by kungfuman »

I have uploaded a comprehensive set of Bae Systems Nimrod aircraft flightplans at Avsim. If you are a fan of this aircraft, you will probably enjoy seeing it appear in the realistic operational theatres that I have sent it to. For me, this fills a big hole in the RAF presence both in Scotland and the middle east, and the seas inbetween. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm afraid I'm a bit vague as to where I got my ai models from. What are the best Nimrod ai models out there?

I have also done (what I consider to be) a good set of Sentinel flightplans, but I don't know of a satisfactory ai model yet. Does anyone have anything good in the pipeline?

Final question: I have modified the MAIW EGNO afcad to a more current layout, including of course the Nimrod apron, but also some other features from the uk aip. Is Gary Barker the original author? If so, is he still a member of MAIW, and would he also like to see a modified version of this afcad - one that can realistically handle the Nimrod activity at Warton - in the public domain?

Any help on these questions is gratefully received...

Thanks for the FPs, I've just d/l them from AVSIM

At the moment there is not a true AI model of the Nimrod. By true AI mean multi LOD, low poly count.

However I use the AI UKMIL Nimrod R1. But as UKMIL has shut up shop I don't know where you can find it now.

Same as the Sentinel really, you have the UKMIL not really true AI model, but as there isn't even a model of the Bombardier Global Express, onto which the lumps were grafted, its not surprising.

Are you planning up load the Sentinel plans as well?

Ok, a little delving around my chaotic "Aircraft" folder revealed the following:

I am using the MR2 model by Brian Franklin of DSB Design for my sandy coloured Nimrods, which came with a Kinloss ai pack from John May. I think it looks better than the UKMIL model, and while I doubt its overall ai credentials, it works well on my lowly system.

For the grey nimrods I use the UKMIL AI model, with a seperate cfg entry to give the MRA4s an "AVRO" atc callsign (this currently being the only difference with the MR2 in my FS World!).

Although it might seem counter-intuitive, a higher proportion of the grey paint jobs should appear in the middle east, with more of the sandy paint jobs staying in Europe - waiting for their new paint scheme, perhaps. The flightplans include an occasional appearance at Norwich, which is where the new paint is applied.

I didn't get on well with the ai models (or the PAPI lights) from the recent UKMIL Waddington release, so I haven't yet reprogrammed my own FPs to use their ai Nimrod R1 model. I think I am using an earlier released UKMIL flyable R1, which both works and looks great. I am apprehensive about suggesting that anyone else should do this, but it works on my old computer.

As I stated above, not getting on well with the Sentinel model I am loathe to put out the flightplans whilst this remains the only ai model available. I don't wish to condemn the user to the same inevitable disatisfaction. Perhaps that's a bit hardline.
Maybe I could be persuaded? I need Indian AF ai repaints....

Like the Nimrod plans, they are fairly comprehensive (within the obvious limits of my ignorance), and include active duty in the Middle East, training in California/Nevada, and also the odd visit to Bombardier in Canada, and Raytheon at Majors, Greenville, Texas and Hawarden/Broughton, England.

EGNO Warton Afcad at Avsim

Post by kungfuman »

Please try my new EGNO Warton Afcad at Avsim. It provides correct parking for the Nimrod MRA4 aircraft, as well as some other new aprons. I have used the data provided in the UK AIP and as usual, I have referenced the Google Earth aerial photography. It is also fully compatible with all the MAIW packages.

Here's a pretty picture:

You will find the file on this page:

There are two versions. Read the readme.txt file to find out which one will suit you better.

Hope you like it...
