Basically, by changing tailcodes and aircraft numbers, and maybe some patches, almost any USAF Vietnam era F-4, as the basic cammo scheme was a specific pattern used on all. I belonged to four different squadrons during my hitch, on three bases, plus each base had 4-8 different squadrons at the base. The tail stripes and codes were the only way to tell the aircraft apart. Also, they would weather very fast, and you would see different aircraft in different degrees of aging/weathering, as well as patched sections on older paint jobs, thruout the squadrons.

One of my future project hopes is to recreate the stateside (USA) TAC training bases from the Vietnam era. George Knowles has done most of the SEA bases.

Aircraft that I will need are the F-4C/D/E/G, F-105D/F/G, A-7D/E, T-38, C-130E, AC-130A/E, C-141, C-5, A-1D/E, and I'm sure a few others, especially older aircraft. Eventually the Navy/Marine and Army aircraft of the period would also be great. And don't forget the FAC aircraft, also, as well as the SR-71. Also, the C/KC-135 aircraft of the period.

I was based at George AFB, now Victorville, while stateside, and we saw all those aircraft at one time or another, as well as at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, while I was there.

Ambitious, yes, and my learning curve very slow with FSDS3, mainly because real life work taking all my time right now, but... Fernando's F-4 really got my juices flowing.

Igorski, I hope your base cammo textures will be useable for others to expand the fleet with, (giving full credit for, of course.) The ones you are showing so far are excellent.

Thanks for the comments guys, you'll have to hold on a little longer as Im collecting a reasonable sized batch together to upload, as I did with the RAF ones.

Don, I will most likely be able to provide copys of the paint kit, or do some of the textures you need myself.

Is there any news on the RF-4 / F-4E / F-4B? / FG1 (F-4K) models?

Thanks for your offer on the paints/paintkits. Now, if I could only find some my memorabilia from when I was in. (Can you say "L-O-O-O-N-G time ago, lol) I'll let you know sometime in the future if I find the stuff.

Looking forward to your packages.

I am beginning to run out of superlatives for what I have seen so far!

Can't wait for the finished products!

Yes I was aware of the white/grey RF-4C's (and F-4C's) but thought that they didn't 'count'!

You can suggest anything you like as long as the models available, or likely to become available in future. :D

Just in case anyone missed them there are some SEA, Euro One, and a Minnesota ANG TAC paint scheme uploaded at AVSIM for Fernando's F-4's.
They represent California ANG, Texas based AFRES, and Minnesota ANG.

I'm wondering if you're going to do the 184th TFG, Kansas Air National Guard from McConnell AFB Kansas. They were a big F-4D Training base that had 3 squadrons for schooling F-4 Pilots. If you like I can help you out with them.

Would you like to do two German RF-4?

Post by gsnde »

These are wonderful repaints!

I am more into airport design, whenever I try do paint or model something, it comes out pretty ugly. So I am looking for a long time for somebody who might have fun doing two repaints of some special German Rf-4 liveries. Both were used on special occasions from the AG-51 "Immelmann" in the South of Germany while the base was still operative.

All and more screenshots (click on for higher resolution) are located here:
http://home.arcor.de/lothar.merkert/bilder.html

The first, very beautiful livery was used for the 25th anniversary.

The red owl was the emblem of the AG-51, btw.

The second livery was used for the Last Call, when the squadron was dismissed in 1993. The newly formed "AG-51" (being the fusion of the AG-51 and AG-52) is located in Jagel in the north of Germany, keeping the traditional name "AG-51 Immelmann", but taking the emblem of the "AG-52", a black Panther.

Well, after having said so much, might you be interested in doing those liveries?

Best regards,
Martin

Is the Phantom set you are working on already released?
