A coroner has branded an RAF squadron "a sloppy outfit"

Post by Garysb »

I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

There's a lot more to come on this story, I fear. And sloppy is too kind a word for the kind of flying they were doing. Idiocy is more appropriate.

Wow, he's not holding anything back.

What was the cause of the accident, other than being stupid at a bad time??

Where do you start? I've seen the video and listened to the tapes and I was totally incredulous that anyone could act the way they did. Like I said, there's more to this story than has come out in that news article and the repercussions could be felt deeply and for some time. Their actions reflect badly on the whole of British military aviation.

The inquiry went right back to the beginning of their flying training to find out if there was any inkling that they were capable of such woeful airmanship/captaincy.

There will be criminal prosecutions following, so I am reliably informed.

The crash itself was the result of flying 'wingover' manoeuvres, lower and lower, in an attempt to make the ride for the recruits 'exciting'. They certainly succeeded in that. The recruits will be thanking the survivor and their officer legally.

This epitomises the old saying; there are old pilots and there are bold pilots. But there are no old, bold pilots.

The coroner apparently took back his comment about the Sqn being "sloppy".

But the surviving pilot himself describes their flying as "unprofessional" ...
