New Ez-Scenery USN O.H. Perry Class Missile Frigates

Post by fishlips »

Hi Friends,

With the Australian Navy version now out on Flightsim and doing well in the download department, I thought it only right to bring the manufacturer and primary user of this ship to our sim, the United States Navy.

This low poly model has vurtually no impact on the sim and can be used in multiples close together, making them perfect for docked sceneries or have them dotted along your coastline.

The textures are high res and give heli pilots that little touch of realism.

You can also land on the heli pad when used with the hard deck file, added to the package.

Looks really good the only thing I notice out of place on it is the boat deck which should be on the port side not the starboard side.

Yes, very true but getting high-res photos of both sides and of a similar colour match has proven difficult to find and living in Australia, its not like I can visit the local USN base. The textures used here were 4 photos joined together in order to get the resolution as high.
Of course I'm open to suggestion and as the 26 USN ships are ez-scenery objects I would hope that some of the worlds budding repainters would correct any of my texture faults if it really annoys them. In fact I'm counting on them.

Sorry to say but there is going to be delay in releasing these ships due to an FSDS problem that has me stumped.
It would appear that in the transfer of texture files from the Australian navy model to the USN model the transparencies have gone a bit crazy and are making a small border of full transparency through the model. I don't know how this has occured and everything I do doesn't seem to change it. The draw order has remained exactly the same as the RAN model which works perfectly.
I'm not sure where to go from here except to throw the FSDS source model out there for more experienced modellers in transparencies to have a look at.
I'm really sorry.

I really hope so Dan, it would be a real shame to trash the model after so many hours developing it and I was so looking foward to having more low poly ships out there.
It's very strange how it just suddenly went out of whack and perhaps its only doing it on my PC????

Perhaps I should stick to what I know best, land structures and airport sceneries.

Ok friends,
This is what I have worked out so far.
I have returned to the original model that I used for the Australian Navy and exchanged texture files with a few minor model remap changes. The model works perfectly however as the texture file names are the same as the RAN files it opens the door for texture file conflicts if both the RAN and USN models are loaded in FS9, so I don't think this a good solution to the transparency issues as mentioned above.
While I have both models loaded in my PC for testing, they are working fine side by side as long as the RAN and USN models are loaded in different add-on scenery folders.

I also addressed "maddogs" comments and altered textures one side of the deck.

I also took on board a PM message which brought my attention to the STIR radar and bow Missile launcher which have been upgraded and/or removed respectively from the USN Perry class.

I'm still plodding away here in effort to find a good solution to the transparency issues with the other model which I'm sure are only minor and I haven't tripped over it yet.
