Need AFCAD for R11S Principe de Asturias Acft Carrier

Post by foufure »

Hello

I've just download the MAIW SPanish Harrier pack.

I also have a scenery withe the spanich aircraft carrier R11 Principe de Asturias.

There is a AF2 file but only with runway...no parking place.

Is someone have an AFCAD file with parking slot of this Aircraft Carrier ?

Many Thanks

Flightplans - just light modification MAIW Spanish Harrier plans. You can do it whith AITM 1.2
AFCAD AF2_R11S in Carrier scenery
AF2_OF1 - (ocean flatten) must be over main cariier scenery

Hi all,I've modified the AFCAD adding Starting Location to avoid take-off and landing.
I've also modified NB Harrier using an aircraft.cfg and .air file from a Stemme files. The result is an Harrier that flies like an helicopter performing a very short take-off and landing.Quite good result.... :) but there are a couple of problems I can't sort out.
First one: Harrier lands, does not follow the taxiways, goes out of the deck and parks out of the parking spot....
Second one, for Nick..... with modified .cfg and .air, the canopy remain opened, no pilot, and the cover on the engines (don't know the right name...) remain on the engines as per screenshot

Any idea/suggestion/help?

Thanks in advance,Giorgio

That is because you have used a helicopter .AIR and .cfg for it. The animations are linked to the Nav lights coming on and in a piston engine they do not.

Fear not there will be a STOVL Harrier FDE and packages coming very soon, so you will all be able to play. Just finishing the last few tweaks with it.

This is a very old post  ....but, has anyone any info for the FDE mentioned by Nick?
Has someone something similar?

Giorgio,
The fde that Nick was talking about was to be used in conjunction with potential Carrier packages. At this moment in time there are no Carrier packages so you have not missed anything. :)

Thanks Steve.
I am searching something that allow my Harriers to take-off and land on Italian carrier Cavour.
Search for some sort of tutorial pointing in the right direction to modify the FDE, but I didn't find anything really useful.

Giorgio,
I went through that stage when I wanted to learn how to mod FDEs and looked for tutorials. I didn't find any out there and the simple truth is that an FDE is a balancing act. There is no simple guidelines you have to play with it yourself.

I liken it to my first gliding instruction. The pilot said to me that the secret of controlling a glider was "move the controls somewhere and see what happens. If you ever want it to do that again then you will know where to put the controls".

If you wanted to tinker yourself then I would suggest working out how you want it to behave differently from now. The key one is stopping quicker. Now you can increase the braking, but that of course limits you to a normal approach and a virtual dead stop. Fine for normal aircraft but Harriers are different.
Then you have the problem of taking off, you have a very short runway and you need to get it airbourne as it reaches the end of the deck. You would think that the simple thing would be to increase power but its not as the aircraft will overspeed in other areas of flight, including approaches. So maybe the best thing is to increase lift. However, this will also affect other areas including approach, so I come back to my original point that its a balancing act. You may need to alter more than or two parms to counter some effect of the increased lift in certain aspects of a flight.
My advice is start with a small change and see how it affects the flight, and then make others to improve it. Once you have it balanced then go back and increase the first parm again and re-balance. It may take some time but you will learn the most about the subject.

Hopefully I haven't confused you or put you off.
Steve

Ciao, Giorgio
Giorgio,

Steve is absolutely correct in that creating any AI FDE requires a large amount of trial and error as you try to balance out all the different parameters involved in making the AI model takeoff, fly and land as close to how the real aircraft performs as possible. Creating decent AI FDE's has proven to be a big test of both patience and perseverance.

Unfortunately when it comes to extraordinary AI FDE's like for a STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Landing) Harrier, vertical landings are probably unachievable. To my knowledge the best landings achieved so far are carrier trap like landings. In addition, creating the very short takeoff run necessary for carrier takeoffs, especially over a ski jump such as used on UK carriers, will probably require some flightplanning limitations when using the STOVL FDE.
