ILS PROBS FSX - ALL FSX SIMMERS PLEASE READ

Post by dk1213 »

Guys,
Has anyone else noticed any issues with the ILS bringing in your aircraft off centerline in fsx? I am having an issue at some airports, KNBG for example, where I pick up the ILS localizer and it brings my plane in too far to the right or left. I cannot make corrections to compensate, and I also feel the glideslope is being picked up too late. ..... anyone noticing this?

Is your KNBG AFCAD an FS9 one? If this is the case it is probably a mis-match between the FSX approach code and the FS9 AFCAD.

The way around it is to modify stock FSX airfields using something like ADE and not use the FS9 version. It means a lot of work for somebody and is not an MAIW problem as FSX is not supported. You either have to create a new FSX-specific AFD file yourself or live with the issue. :smt003

k thanks. I have no idea how to do that so I will just live with it or go buy fs9 and dump fsx altogether.

The runway true heading in both fs9 and fsx is 44.18. In fs9, the localizer is set to 43.0, so it will bring you in to the right. In fsx the localizer is 44.18, so it will bring you straight in. It isn't 100% clear what the "correct" heading is, though the fsx one seems more likely to be correct.

Note that not every localizer will bring you in straight down the centerline. You need to look at the appropriate chart and see if it shows an offset from centerline.

If you are using an AFCAD based on fs9 in fsx, it probably is using the 43.0 heading, so that isn't surprising, and is not a problem with fsx.

Thanks for answering that. It is frustrating in bad weather or at night. I made several passes, all with the same result. It is because of the MAIW fs9 afcad.

You can use AFX which you can convert your fs9 afcads to fsx, and yes it is a payware prog.

Use ADE (Airport Design Editor) or FSX Planner instead. They're both freeware but won't strip the embedded approach waypoints off the airport like AFX does.
