Runways closing at Brunswick Naval Air Station

BRUNSWICK, Maine — When the runways’ lights go out at Brunswick Naval Air Station, they’re going to stay out. For several months, at least.
Air operations end at 10 p.m. Friday, another milestone in the closing of what was the last active-duty military airfield in New England. That means no control tower, no radar, no runway lights. Also, the Navy will place large yellow X’s on the runways and stop plowing them.
Cmdr. David Ivezic, the air boss, said some transient aircraft have visited the base since the last P-3 Orions departed on Nov. 28. But that ends Friday night.
The decision to shutter the base was made in the final round of closings by the Base Closure and Realignment Commission in 2005. The base closes for good in May 2011.

Another one bites the dust courtesy of a BRAC attack.

Big time Sucks! They used to fly into Pease a lot which was awesome for me and my camera. Had a base visit few years back when they had units and word was they were starting to cycle them to NASJ after their deployment was over.
