Beta Tester for FSX A-10 Canopy Fix

Post by gsnde »

I am about to release the FSX Canopy Fix for Rysiek's A-10 used in many MAIW packages which will remove the opaqueness of the canopy and makes it see-through again. Other than with the Tornado (where we made changes to the textures) this time only a modified and recompiled model will do the trick.

The fix consists of a program and a set of replacement mdl files. The program - like you might know from the MAIW Menu Creator - scans a folder structure you point it to and reports all A-10 models. After the scan you can update the models per click on button. The original model will be saved with the extension '.owl.' If you don't like the fix, you can restore the old models from within the program.

I like to have the tool tested and commented before I release it on The Owl's Nest. If you feel like volunteering, please send me a PM with your mail address - you will receive a download link.

Thanks a lot!
Martin

Not sure, Mike :?

Until now nobody has volunteered. I will ask over at AIG if somebody is interested testing it.

OK it worked on my virgin setup but now the "glass" is gone. I'm sure I have to do something to make that part work. Good job, Martin.

EDIT: Of course, the glass is gone on everything so...lol

Gone as in completely gone, Dan? :?

No, you are not supposed to do anything else than running the tool. Can you check if you have the MAIW_canopy_clear.bmp texture in your <%fs%>\texture folder? I realize that this is not provided with every MAIW package. So if this is the reason I have to ask for permission to include the file in my setup (install if not there).
Cheers,
Martin

Yes, it's missing BUT again...it's missing from all of my planes so it's not just the A-10s. I'll check out that file and see if that works.

I have updated the program and installer. Please re-download from the same link and run the installer. The tool will now install the 'MAIW_canopy_clear.bmp' texture in case it is missing (which might be the case if somebody has skipped just the right MAIW packages).
Cheers,
Martin

I downloaded and ran the new tool.
I could not update...could only remove the update. So, I switched back to the old versions and tried to update again...so as to get the canopy file...and I got this error.

What a mess, Danny! The dark side of quick-fixes ...

You said you could not update with the new version. That is because the update was already installed. The program knows from the fact that the original model is saved with the extension 'Owl' in the model folder. If the update is already installed, the tools offers the uninstall option only.

Now I don't know what you did when you say you switched back and forth versions. Let's make sure we go on reproducible testing ground. Please uninstall and reinstall (last version) the Canopy Fixer and try again. Thanks a million.
Cheers,
Martin
