A mighty cool new feature added to the Airport Search...

Post by gsnde »

Go to The Owl's Nest -> Online Tools -> Airport Search -> search for any airport.
See if you spot the new feature. Tell me if you like it. Guess what I add to the distance calculator :smt002
Cheers,
Martin

That is true for the whole Owl's Nest, Nick. But this Google Map thing was like a strike - idea, realization and go-live in one long evening (okay, I am not that productive today in office). I will clean it up a bit this evening: add a link where the airport name is with a tooltip saying to click it to see the airport instead of the lame header telling you to click a row.

For the distance calculator I will add a map showing the arc from departure to target airport.
Cheers,
Martin

Both Airport Search (now in a nice and final form) and Distance Calculator (new) support Google Maps now. The distance calculator will not respect any legal borders and flight corridors, naturally. But still it give you a pretty good idea. Btw, the markers are click-able :smt002

Very cool tool, but it kinda opened a can of worms for me that I have forgotten about. Do you use FS9 airport data or real world data for the location? The reason I ask is I looked up my local strip, A privately owned grass strip/ skydiving center, about 4 or 5 miles from my house, 06PA. MS has it located wrong, and in FS it is sunk into terrain, like a crater. Real world it is located a few thousand ft south of the NY/ PA line, in a valley, near the northern boundary of the Duke MOA, in MS it is north of the state line, literally inside a hill. In the real world its kind of a weird set up it is located in PA, but is accessed from NY. Looking it up from your tool, it shows the wrong location, but looking it up thru airnav, it shows the correct location. Anyone know of a way to correct the location in FS?
