Music was so much better then
Just going through you tube & looking at music that was around in my youth (70`s).
10cc, good morning judge, Thin Lizzy, the boys are back in town, & yeah,Tubeway army, our friends electric. Great to hear them again.
Music was so much better back then (showing my age now).
What do you lot like, music wise?

I think you get the general idea.

Re: Music was so much better then
No offense but I hated music from the 70s:)
I'm an 80s and 90s guy. I bet we can all agree, though, that most music today sucks.

Ah, all heavies eh.
Its funny, but I like Pink Floyd more now than I did then, & I have to admit I was a rainbow fan back then.
The 80`s were good as well.

Good one Celtic Warrior, that had me laughing for quite a while. I always wanted to kill Zippy, & Bungle was a bit on the feminine side for my liking.

Talking about hair, what about the band,a flock of seagulls. That was the decade of who could get the stupidest haircut around(me included).
The 80`s had some good bands & the 90`s. I like some of the Bon Jovi stuff & Mr Mr. I can`t think of any other 90`s bands at
the moment apart from Tears for fears.

(Sorry about the over the top drummer. Its the best I could find

Re: Music was so much better then
Well I wasn't even alive yet, so rest assured that you will certainly hate my choice of contemporary music. But I do appreciate the older stuff too, although again my musical leanings are not likely to go down too well here... I'm more about Jazz, Blues, Soul and Funk. Oh, and lot's of Reggae, Dub and the rest.
So, world's apart from the rest of you guys I'm sorry to say. Perhaps the closest common ground might be one of Jack White's latest projects:The Dead Weather.
Having said all that, I'm not averse to bits of Pink Floyd, some of Led Zepp, but even then I tend to skirt round their more "mainstream" classics. And I get along well with things like Iain Dury, The Clash etc. even though I have an inbuilt prejudice against most '80s pop culture in general.

Re: Music was so much better then
Good effects on that video.
The lead singer of Iron Maiden (forget his name now), he seems a good guy. Apparently there was a load of Iron Maiden fans flying somewhere in Europe to see a concert, and they didn`t realise that he was flying the plane until in the cruise where he came out and met them all. Something Dixon?,Bruce?
Anyhow, you all probably know he is an airline pilot don`t you.
The thread had to come back to aircraft didn`t it.

Bruce Dickinson.
He is also a published author and was in the Olympic fencing squad a couple of Games ago. I must admit to having Ed Force One flying around in my sim.

Re: Music was so much better then
What a nice off-topic
Much is already mentioned (with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Deep Purple, Stones, Beatles, AC/DC, Eagles, Suptertramp (I have ticktes
) leading the pack for me).
Lynnyrd Skynnyrd, Bad Company, Free, Allmann Brothers, ZZ Top are great. CSN and Young in all flavours.
Latin Quarter, Manfred Mann, Marillion, ELO and Eloy. The Who, Bon Jovi, Jethro Tull. 10CC. Sting / Police.
Reggae: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Alpha Blondie, ...
I always have an open ear for oldies (Scott McKanzie, Mamas and Papas, etc.)
I love South American music like Ruben Blades, Gilberto Gil, Maria Betania, Astrud Gilberto, ....
Also some variants of Jazz: Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheney, Kenny G, Jan Gabarek, ....
The album I would take on the famous island: "Jerry Garcia & John Grisman: Grisman & Garcia"

Looks like you like a bit of everything Martin. I forgot about the Who, until I heard it at the start of all three CSI series on TV.
ELO & the mamas & papas was a good choice as well.
As far as the modern stuff goes, I am into Enigma and David Gilmour at the moment.

Re: Music was so much better then
Yep, as wide spread from ABBA to Paradise Lost
David Gilmore is great, like many from the famous old bands do a great job now on their own. Peter Green, Peter Gabriel, Mark Knopfler (oh dear, I fogot Dire Straits above, how could I!). There is so much good music. B-52s has much more to it than just a missed AI aircraft, right?
The Cure. Fischer Z. Boston. Queen. Patti Smith. Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Stevie Wonder.
I never really made it to Rap, House & Hip-Hop, though, except for individual songs.
