Farnborough Airshow
I just found out that this years Farnborough Airshow will have a 1Hr UAV/UCAV display before the piloted stuff goes up. I am glad in one way, being an aircraft buff, but on the other hand I live just inside the display area. I just hope the guy`s at Creech, Nevada, are concentrating when they fly over my house, lol.
Is this the first time a UAV has flown at an airshow?

Re: Farnborough Airshow
No, they've been flying the MQ-1 and MQ-9 at the Nellis airshow for a couple years now but only flybys, nothing special.

Re: Farnborough Airshow
Why wouldn't the flight crew be on-site for a demo at an airshow?
But it would be entertaining to announce to the crowd that the pilot of that aircraft is several thousand miles away too...

Re: Farnborough Airshow
If it's just doing a flyby, that can be done globally without the need for a local departure/arrival pilot.

Might some of the controllers/pilots be in Aberporth, Wales? I think that's where the Qinetiq UAV research program is based

Before leaving Holloman, They had a Predator & Reaper demo at the airshow and nobody was paying any attention lol.

Re: Farnborough Airshow
As I work next to the Farnborough airfield, I get to see the practice displays the week before the actual airshow, and to be honest the practice flights are better than the actual displays. The F-22 practice at the last Farnborough airshow was awesome compared to the toned down display during the show.
The only problem with the practice week is that you never know what day or time the aircraft are going up, where the display week you can get the timings from the website.
