In need of quality static Truck

Post by fishlips »

Hi Friends,
Just wondering if any other static model developers like my self have made a quality semi-tractor truck that they may like to share with me. I'm looking for something in the lines of a Mack, Western Star, Scania, etc. It can be a cabover or bonnet truck but requires duel rear wheels. I would require the source file in FSDS format so as to make the necessary changes to the trailer to fit the truck turntable height.

I'd thought I'd ask before setting about on redeveloping another model that may not be required.

Please drop me a PM if your interested.

Does anybody own a similar truck that they can take some photos of; side, front, back, and a couple of downward looking shots if they can get them????

Ah yes, you're running into the problem that we all run into, getting quality pictures to make textures from......

Often times I find that if I post the exact name/model of what I'm searching for, others will be able to come up with pictures that for whatever reason, I could not find myself. It's sorta like an internet scavenger hunt.

Yeah Mike, in a way.
Often there are too many photo's to sift through and choosing the right ones can be a problem when you don't have a specific truck in mind, just one that will do the task at hand.

I think I have the issue under control. Making the model is only a couple of hours work, its the textures that can drive you crazy but thankfully I found a Mack that should do the job I'm after.
The pic's below show the basic truck model without any bells and whistles. It comes in under two hundred poly's and that includes the six wheels, wheel guards and two fuel tanks. (I couldn't afford the 600hp donk).
Basically the model is simple but uses the texture shadows to provide extra detail, of course it only uses one texture file as any static scenery should of this size which can be down graded to 256x256 if desired.

It's currently in White to make it easier for repaints.

Still a little more work to be done.

Now those are some sweet vehicles!
When you get the library all finished up you ought to let a certain military AI group use it....

It's not really a Mack without the bulldog on the hood.

Excellent job on the tractor. Looks great.

Hi Dan,
That was the plan for it to become part of the MAIW scenery library and be initally released via an Australian AI package. Other countries special colours and markings can be easily made via the source file by MAIW FSDS scenery developers if required or I can produce them when needed.
I have a lot of vehicles on my wish list that I'm sorting through.

With regard the Bull Dog, I knew that comment was coming. It would add about 40 poly's. If you really like I could do it via a transpairency for about four to five poly's.

The trucks won't be released as standard ez-scenery objects, at least not in the near future. Maybe, just maybe MAIW scenery developers may choose to use them in there airbase sceneries and become objects of the offical MAIW library. If not, you will start to see them appear in my Australian Airbase sceneries as they are released to flightsim.com. over time.
This collection in the current paint schemes are based on Australia, as there are very few trucks of the like that are not U.S. and it kind of looks silly when placed in Australian sceneries.

There will be a basic collection of generic paints, which are common around the world in civil and military schemes that should suit most applications but I won't be doing individual repaints my self for certain company trucks as I would be here forever doing them.

Thanks for your interest.

Here is an example of two generic trucks that may be used in various sceneries around the world.
The B-double is perhaps more readily seen in Australia and U.S. This one is just a baby compared to what we use in the Australian outback but is often seen running around our local highways and cities.
The bob tail (trailer) or Semi as we can them here will have a few different configerations such as sleeper cab and side wind deflectors, etc.

If somebody wants to jump in and develop a cabover truck, they are free to use my trailers if desired. I need to move on to other projects, so if your interested give me PM.

The last of the truck pic's, this subject string is getting a bit large.
The trucks have different configerations, the tautlinner also has an open version, the gates has one side removed for those who may like to add a forklift and cargo, etc. Many different types so you don't get bored with them from scenery to scenery.

Ok, these are the last shots. I got a bit carried away with the body trucks.
Keep going like this and Mack Trucks will sponsor the website.
Notice the light frame rate hit. I'm only using a single core P-4 PC that fives years old so they are light as.

Fantastic work mate. They would be a welcome addition to the MAIW scenery libraries if you fancied sharing.

Thanks Nick.
All my developments are freeware and these trucks have been offered to MAIW for at which point they won't be uploaded elsewhere as a library file, with exception to my own sceneries of course and those developers like minded that wish to add to the collection.

Not that it matters, because these are awsome models, but as a truck driver/ enthusiast I have to speak up. These look like they are modeled after M915A2/A3/A4 which are based on Freightliner FLD120's The M915/M915A1 were made by AM General, and the new M915A5's are based on Western Star 4900 series. None of the 915's look like macks, :( it just bugs me and its kind of an insult to put a Mack nameplate on a Freightshaker. :D
