JASDF 501 Hikotai RF-4E/EJ Kai Phantom II

Post by Angry_Anderson »

I've painted twenty three RF-4E/EJ's of 501 Hikotai, based at Hyakuri (RJAH), using Nick Blacks RF-4E and F-4E models. I'd certainly enjoy seeing these shared with the FS community in an MAIW package, complete with flightplans and AFCADs...if possible/feasible.

Though I've found 23 serials, apparently the JASDF has 26 RF-4E/EJ's in service, as of 2008. I'm having no luck in finding the remaining three serials. Here's the ones I do have

Standard RF-4EJ
----------------
47-6901, 47-6902, 47-6903, 47-6904, 47-6905, 57-6906, 57-6907, 57-6908, 57-6909, 57-6912
57-6913, 57-6914

F-4EJ's converted to RF-4EJ
-----------------------------
07-6433, 47-6335, 57-6371, 57-6373, 57-6374, 57-6376, 67-6380, 77-6392, 77-6397, 77-6403, 87-6406

Any information, comments, or complaints are welcomed. Thanks.

Wow, that is some amazing paintwork there, they look fantastic. One of the MAIW contributors started to do a Japanese F-4 package a while ago, but they haven't been seen for a while and so it went dark. Perhaps one of the other guys will pick up the project and if so I'm sure we would be most interested to see your textures as they do look remarkable.

Please remember though that anyone who contributes to MAIW does so at their own pace and on projects that they wish to do, we never ever pressure anyone for packages, that's the beauty of this place.

Thanks, Nick. I can certainly make flightplans and AFCADs, however their quality/realism would be an issue. I've enjoyed MAIW packages for years, so I thought this would be the logical place to come for help. Oh, yes, no hurry :)

Well we can certainly guide you through the process and then if the package is upto our release standards (which we will also help you to achieve) then we would happily look at it. We are always happy to bring onboard new members of the team.

Have you had any experience with flightplans and AFDs? Do you have or use Rysiek Winawer's flightplanning tool? DO you have AFCAD or AFX? These are some of the starting questions we would ask.

I use RPP_FPGen on a regular basis for some of my personal representative flightplans. I have AFCAD, AFX, and ADE for AFCAD use. Heck, I even have Lightwave and FSDS, however that doesn't mean I can model ;). I MUCH prefer painting to anything else, but I do make flightplans and AFCADs for myself when the need arises.

like this photo:

57-6910 & 57-6911 both RF-4EJ and both w/o perhaps crashed
87-6412 ex F-4EJ 87-8412 (probably in service)

Thanks for the research help, Maverick. However, 57-6373 is a valid serial (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 908&nseq=7). Also, I did manage to find one more RF-4 (57-8909) at a Japanese website (http://userdisk.webry.biglobe.ne.jp/005 ... G_6060.JPG). Now, the number of serials stands at 26, which may or may not, be the magic number.

ok for the first one but the second is 57-6909 not 57-8909. according to the JASDF serial system it doesn't exist

As some may have noticed, I posted the RF-4's on Avsim. I've made some flightplans for them and am working on an AFCAD for RJAH. That will all get uploaded soon...hopefully. While taking a break those those two things, I've started painting some of the 302 Hikotai F-4EJ's, as they operated out of RJAH also.

A quick model/AFCAD question; I checked the wingspan of Nick's F-15 model, using AFCAD, and it showed as 12m. Is that the correct radius or should I reduce it to 9m. I used a value of 12m on my AFCAD for F-15 parking and 9m for the RF/F-4's.

The radius doesn't only take into account the wingspan but the length as well, whichever is longer. I can't remember what Nick's radius is set to, I would have to check when I get home.

I did notice the rather subtle little package you loaded up. Much appreciated.

Those paints are some of the most realistic I have seen. You have done the old F.4 proud. Nice job.

Thanks! 8)

I've uploaded the F-4EJ's to Avsim (jasdf_302_hikotai_f-4ej.zip). Thirty-six repaints included. I still haven't uploaded any flightplans, as I'll include those with the AFCADs.
