Remove AI from appearing in aircraft selection

Post by Kurosaki »

I wanted to ask if anyone knew if this was possible, or is the creation method/format of an ai aircraft what determines whether or not it appears in the main loading screen. For example...I have normal, flyable aircraft in my database that I want to appear, but there are a good number of AI planes that I do not want to appear as they clutter up space when searching for aircraft I actually want to fly. (Particularly evident with Ardvark commercial aircraft.) Is there something I can modify in the aircraft.cfg that will remove it from the aircraft selection menu, but allow it to still function as an AI aircraft within the sim? or allow me to find it by manufacturer and see on VATSIM/FSINN multilayer (when programmed to appear for a specific aircraft make and paint) - thanks

Yes, it is possible, but it's not the aircraft.cfg you need to amend. It's the .air file in the aircraft folder. Get hold of a program called aired (available most of the usual places) and use it to amend entry 105 (Aircraft type) in the .air file. Replace the =0 with =2 to make the aircraft invisible to the menus.

There is a utility somewhere which can do it for you in one go, rather than having to change each file individually.

Hope that helps.

It's called BBQHide AI and can be found on avsim as

bbqhideai.zip

Splendid...the BBQHide one didn't work (wouldn't detect the .air files), but the other worked great...thanks. Things are becoming more streamlined now.

Another great utility every simmer should have is called FlusiFix.

Do a google search for it. It does batch conversions of AI hiding and much, much more.

I've used BBQHide for years with no problems.

But one thing to note - the process is different in FSX

The .AIR file setting has no impact in FSX. If the AI aircraft folder has a panel folder, it will appear in the Select Aircraft window. Remove the \panel folder to hide the AI aircraft in FSX.
